Here we go again with the eighty second episode of my show. As usual we take in a good variety of stuff, but the focus is a bit more on the disco side this time. We’ve got old stuff, new stuff, funky stuff, big powerful stuff, some of my stuff and two tracks by two we sadly lost recently - Robert Ouimet and Bernard Wright.

For this fortnight’s guest mix it’s my immense pleasure to welcome my second guest from Mexico in a row - my Disco Hermano Vincent Galgo. Humberto is a talented producer, a great DJ and boss of a brilliant label Disko Knights, which I was lucky enough to release a two track EP on last year. He’s also a really lovely guy, and I’m thrilled to get him on the show. 

Humberto’s mixed us up an hour of the best disco vibes with tunes from the likes of last fortnight’s guest Hotmood, The Magic Track, Art of Tones, Javi Frias and an unreleased number from Vincent Galgo himself. This week's special guest is Tom Vine, aka CHEWY RUBS, owner of the hugely successful Bandolier Records and purveyor of the finest disco beats!

He produces his own original tracks as well as edits, and his music style ranges from high-energy uplifting disco to chugging tech-funk grooves. It's a pleasure to welcome him to the show 😉

** CHEWY RUBS BIO **
Chewy Rubs, known to his mom as Tom grew up immersed in an eclectic mix of music. He learned to mix rather than learning to drive, wisely buying his first 1200’s instead of a car. He passed his test with flying colors and first graced the wheels of steel in his hometown of Hereford at the legendary Naughty But Nice during the mid-nineties.

Having moved to Glasgow and then onto London he continued his musical education in breaks and Hip Hop listening to the The Operators and by working in a central London vinyl emporium where the endless supply of fresh vinyl, back catalogues and being encircled by renowned independent shops like fat Cat, Black Market, Sista Ray and Phonica meant he could continuously indulge his passion for rare, limited edition and imported wax.

Production was a natural next step and after mastering Ableton and with the help of Soundcloud, his influences gelled into the Chewy Rubs sound. A steady tranche of killer edits followed and support has come from Greg Wilson, Tiger & Woods, Derek Kaye, Danny Krivit, Fingerman & Yam Who? along with a growing global fan base across social media by those who just love to Disco.

Chewy Rubs continues to deliver a steady stream of new edits. His new tracks are always eagerly anticipated by DJ’s and fans via social media and on key labels like Hot Digits, Midnight Riot and more recently Seamus Haji's Re-Loved.

2022 is looking strong with his new label, original productions and new website releasing high quality downloads, exclusive vinyl and other merchandise in the near future.

Recording from Brixton Disco Festival at Electric Brixton 30.04.22 - directly before Cerrone live appearance.

The final track, 'Delirium' by Francine McGee, in memory of legendary Canadian DJ Robert Ouimet, who mixed the track, one of my all-time Disco favourites. Robert had died earlier that month - he was resident at Montreal's most famous club, Lime Light, in the '70s/early '80s.

Whats up fam!  Had an absolute blast this past weekend playing the Social Grooves party in Victoria alongside DJ Dan, Colette and some of Vancouver Islands finest!  It was epic and I had the pleasure of opening things up with a 2 hour jazzy/groovy set. London-based producing duo Raz & Afla return to the limelight with their new EP, Mama Weja EP, being released via Paris-based label Mawimbi. Mawimbi specializes as purveyors of vibrant Afro-House music, which makes them the perfect home for Raz & Afla’s newest release. The duo has been steadily building a name for themselves as mainstays of London’s eclectic dance music scene, developing their exciting fusion of traditional West African and modern house music with releases via labels such as Beating Heart, Afro Zone, and Fossil Sounds.

“Mama Weja”, the closing track on the latest EP, continues to do just that. The track is a bold, immersive take on Afro-House, influenced strongly by West African musical traditions. A carefully utilized selection of traditional African instruments, including hypnotic balafon and djembe rhythms, create the perfect compliment to Afla’s vocal incantations. These are seamlessly counterpointed by increasingly-warped vocals and Raz’s house-inspired breaks, which punctuate the track’s epic 6-and-a-half-minute runtime. The result is an incredibly refreshing and inventive cut of Afro-House music that consistently pushes the boundaries of what this exciting subgenre can offer.
