Prettybwoy’s debut is entitled Tayutau ( 揺蕩う), a traditional Japanese term often used in haiku and literature, meaning ‘waver’ - a state of indecisiveness, to lose determination or purpose, often temporarily, or to drift or sway to and fro. Made over the last two years whilst dealing with isolation, job loss, burnt hard-drives and almost losing the whole project, the album has seen several phases and degrees of anxiety, uncertainty, hope and frustration.

‘Too many things have changed since starting to make this album, and I think that is reflected in the production. The album can be split into three parts – tracks I made before the pandemic when things felt stable, tracks made during lockdown in isolation, and tracks made during the cautious and conflicted opening up and the lead up to the Olympics. There has been so much confusion and changes back and forth, but I want to have hope and try to keep focused, which at times hasn't been easy’

As well as drawing from external causes, 'Tayutau' also comes from a place of internal uncertainty.

'This is a trip in search of my new identity, or maybe to understand my current one. I am Japanese, living in Japan, but my music is only released by labels from other countries. I am a member of SVBKVLT (China), and also Polaar (France), but where or who am I in Japan?’

Tayutau is a 10 track album, featuring two vocal appearances from lIlI and a collaboration with Primula, and comes with artwork and video from Wang Jingxin. A separate EP of remixes will be released shortly after the album.

Woes Of Subjectivity is a four-track EP that was written between September 2020–October 2021.

This EP takes a look at how one mediates between the core self, the peers around them, and the encompassing broader world.

With a plethora of knowledge available, old and new, how does the self emotionally rationalise with the multiple streams of information presented to us? At what point do objectivity and subjectivity blur to become indistinguishable, and to what intention does the media and its author mean to influence? To those around us, collectively we are lucky to strum critical discourse, otherwise we remain lost in our woes.

2 T5UMUT5UMU - Lightning Injury 電紋

ACEN 015 is the first release of 2020 from All Centre founder DJ P, offering up two tracks that are distinct in their intensity but share a lighthearted production approach.

A side ‘Pbat’ uses a mournful organ to signal it’s beginning, with floating fx splaying across the stereo spectrum as the introduction drives forward. At the 1:50 mark the introductions suspense is broken, being overrun by gliding portamento synths and tear out drums whilst supporting chords slowly build around the tracks core. As the track steadily loops over more synths, fx and fuzzy repetitions of the phrase “Love me til I love you back ‘’ join in, forcing the track towards its eventual wind down.

B side ‘Things Can Only Get Worse’ deploys a skippy broken beat, with the tracks key motifs gathering around it’s snare patterns as a blown out sub convulses below. DJ P allows the track drums to drive forward confidently before they become untethered at the halfway mark, sliding into a call and response breakdown between the tracks synth parts.
