I can remember listening t this when it was originally on radio1 I used to love listening to Jeff young every week in the 80s, it was the first place I heard a DJ mix backvwen I was 8 or 9 yes old and been addicted to djing ever since..

The Imperial Mixers were notorious for mixing Soul and Hip Hop, we were also influenced by The Master Mind Roadshow (UK Sound System), who were way ahead of most at that time, these guys were the 1st to my knowledge to perform live 6 deck mixes! Everyone who went to the Notting Hill Carnival during the late 80's will know where I'm coming from!

I was apart of unit at that time called D.E.T.T! Dedication, Equals, Total   Triumph this was formed by MC Mello I loved hearing my name on record so it just made sense to give my crew a shout out! lol.

My 1st ever appearance on Radio 1! This was a big deal 22 years ago as Radio 1 is the UK's top radio station and certainly didn't play Hip Hop in the capacity it does today, how times have changed! DMC was know as the Disco Mix Club and it's competitors where mainly club DJ's! Chad Jackson was The World Champion and the catalyst for us street DJ's at the time as we honestly had no interest in entering DMC, my sights where firmly set on the New Music Seminar in the US but after some hard convincing &amp; seeing Pogo after his heat victory I knew I had to enter! This recording isn't the live orginal recording by the way as the cheap stylus I used distorted the recordings so DMC gave me a pair of Santon 500, the equipment is the same GLI 9000 Mixer which can be seen during the 87' &amp; 88' World finals I was familar with it but certainly couldn't afford one! Again you can hear the Copycat being performed in a appropriate style to compliment the music, remember this was when DJ's were still using all sorts of gimmicks to scratch with! Enjoy.
