Meteors Recordings crashes with a series of podcasts dedicated to the sounds of Electro, EBM, Dark Disco, and Techno.

Former professional dancer who toured Europe, ÆSTR (\ɛs.tɛʁ) @aestr has been a techno producer since 2012 and discovered mixing in 2017. This multifaceted artist has been deeply influenced by industrial music, psytrance, and post-metal for the past 20 years. Previously a bassist, she has a keen sensitivity to frantic, driving rhythms and cold, metallic sounds. To what shakes you inside and out. With determination, she takes us into a dense universe where urgency weighs heavily — the urgency of a dystopian transformation. Her inspirations include Skinny Puppy, Nine Inch Nails, Cult Of Luna, Front242, Juno Reactor, Front Line Assembly, and Perc, among others. She also draws from literature, sci-fi/horror cinema, and meditation. Her productions aim to surprise and invite listeners into a trance-like state. Music becomes a medium for an altered state of consciousness. Behind the decks, she navigates between EBM, Industrial Techno, and Dark Techno, delivering dark yet groovy sets that hit like a rave from another world. An invitation to forget the linearity of time.

With Blitzcast 002 we'd like to welcome another duo to our resident family: Glaskin! The name should sound familiar to all fans of remote electronic music. At least over here in Munich it does. At Blitz they were regular guests on the dance floor since the very beginning, however the Set the two brothers delivered in March convinced us that the two should step up. Born and raised in Munich, Jonathan and Ferdi are true homegrown players of the late dance music movement in Bavaria. As members of the Kellerkind crew, the founders of the festivals 'Schall im Schilf' and 'Back to the Woods', they have a substantial impact on these festivals, way beyond the mere musical selection. Their musical paths go back to their very childhood, when they found out how effectively they can create music together. With tracks like 'Groundwork' they have been exploring new takes on percussive techno, while their latest EP 'Grey Lines' shows the duo’s great variety, ranging from drum’n bass inspired breakbeats to crafty tunes that delve deep into the dub aesthetics… and there’s so much more to come. Welcome to the club!

Mit dem Blitzcast 002 begrüßen wir ein weiteres Duo in unserer Resident-Familie: Glaskin! Die Gebrüder sollten längst all jenen ein Begriff sein, die einen Draht zu elektronischer Musik haben. Zumindest in und um München. Im Blitz sind die Beiden seit dem ersten Tag an vertraute Visagen auf dem Dancefloor. In der Booth machten sie spätestens im März diesen Jahres Nägel mit Köpfen. In München geboren und aufgewachsen, sind Jonathan und Ferdinand echte Eigengewächse der heranreifenden, lokalen Techno-Generation. Als essentieller Teil der Kellerkind-Crew, das Gründer-Kolletkiv hinter dem 'Schall im Schilf' und 'Back To The Woods', haben die Zwei wesentlichen Einfluss auf die Inhalte. Als Charaktere und als Djs. Den Grundpfeiler für ihre enge Verbundenheit zur Musik legten sie bereits in jungen Jahren. Die Brüder bemerkten immer deutlicher, wie intuitiv sie harmonieren und wie effektiv sie ihre Rollen fusionieren. Und so ist es bis heute geblieben: Jonathan widmet sich der Harmonie, Ferdinand liefert die Drums. Nach Jahren harter und leidenschaftlicher Arbeit im Studio, traten die Beiden in Form ihres Tracks 'Ultra Deep Field' auf Scubas 'Fabric Mix 90' mit einem Paukenschlag in die Öffentlichkeit. Auf dessen Label Hotflush erschienen seither drei EPs der Zweierkombi. Mit Produktionen wie 'Groundwork' stellen Glaskin ihr Gespür für perkussiven Techno in den Fokus, während sie mit ihrer aktuellen EP' Grey Lines' ihre von Drum n’ Bass inspirierten Break-Beat-Qualitäten und ihren Hang zu kunstvoll-tiefgründigen Flächen präsentieren. Und das ist gerade mal der Anfang. Herzlich Willkommen, Brudis!

Forced Stillness

Time sure does fly when you’re having fun, and so it is that we’ve already raced up to podcast number 200. We’ve managed to call upon a suitably large name for the honour; someone who has very much shaped the techno scene over the course of the last 20 years and continues to excite people every time he plays. That man is Surgeon. As a performer, Birmingham’s Anthony Childs was one of the first men to embrace and exploit the possibilities of Ableton Live and Final Scratch. His mastery of that technology made his sets even more improvised and innovative, and over the years he has never compromised his vision. He plays with a sense of devastation and destruction that explores the very outer edges of what is possible, while always keeping the dance floor absolutely locked in. It’s been the same since he founded his hometown’s first techno club, House of God, at the start of the 90s. 

As a producer—whether solo or in celebrated collaborations with Regis as British Murder Boys or Ben Sims as Frequency 7—he seems to be getting better with age. Right from his first EP on Karl O’Connor’s Downwards in 1994, surgeon has had a hard hitting, linear style that remains to this day. Recent years saw him return to a primitive rave style and incorporate the gritty industrial influences of his youth. But in 2018 he evolved again and served up what many consider to be his best album in years. Luminosity Device features a more rhythmic, playful sense of drum programming next to his meticulously crafted synths and enthralling sense of urgency and future paranoia. The nuance in his tracks is now as intriguing as the visceral power of the kicks, and it all adds up to an album that works as well on headphones, at home, as it does on the dance floor. It’s proper techno by a proper techno head. 

And so is the mix he has put together for us. Over 1 hour 45 minutes, the man calls upon plenty of pivotal names from Juan Atkins and Oscar Mulero to Donato Dozzy and James Ruskin. There are plenty of twists and turns along the way, so that zoned out passages of dubbed out drums are followed by intergalactic space battles and moments of synth laden intensity. It’s a testament to Surgeon’s skills that he can take you to such far ranging corners of the techno world without ever getting lost.

Matias Fernandez aka Distant es un Dj/Prodcutor de la provincia de córdoba, se desenvuelve especialmente con sonidos enfocados al techno pero siempre experimentando entre sus distintas facetas con una personalidad característica que mezcla melodías, líneas acidas, electricas, breaks y otros estilos con mucha energía agresiva sobre la pista encontrándose de esta forma en un proceso de renovación musical constante en el que busca lograr la mayor cantidad de sensaciones posibles.

Sus producciones y presentaciones lo han llevado a tener la posibilidad de compartir cabina con artistas internacionales del nivel de SHDW & Obscure Shape, Keith Carnal o Ryan James Ford y formar parte regularmente en el circuito de clubes locales.
Distant también es el fundador del proyecto “TERRA FURIA” el cual cuenta con una plataforma online en formato de revista y sello que busca unificar la música techno en la Argentina y establecer lazos de acción entre los distintos artistas, sellos discográficos, promotores, ciclos de eventos y cualquier tipo de actividad que esté relacionada y genere un cambio positivo en la escena del país, a su vez el proyecto también ha comenzado a funcionar como productora de eventos, impulsando a lo mejores artistas de la escena y promoviendo la música techno en la provincia de córdoba con mayor intensidad.

CutOff!CutOff! has always been interested in working on the fringes, outside of acceptednorms and conventions. Having lived in London, New York and South Australia, the Berlin based artist is constantly on the lookout for those undiscovered spots off the beaten paths. Perhaps it requires the freedom of being an outsider in order to discover new landssince such an approach necessarily results in a lack of associations with established scenes. Therefore, it's only logical he chose Techno as his preferred mode of expression:A genre which from its inception is synonymous with experimentation and pushing technology into directions where it was never imagined to be used. This leaves aside, of course, the narrow clichéd understanding of the genre with its endless recurrence of the same formulaic music.Accordingly, his music breathes the spirit of defiance against conformity and unconditional accessibility -the pivotal question for him is whether he discoverssomething new about himself or the world in the process of creating his music. May the result be an exercise in violent indulgenceor the contemplative dwelling on dark ambient drones. The idiosyncrasy of CutOff!CutOff!'s industrial leaning sound will most likely not cater to standard play-it-safe dancefloorsbut is for those willing to go beyond usual listening habits.His way of working in extremes is certainly informed by his early years spent in various Hardcore bands.This uncompromising approach to creating extends to the way CutOff!CutOff! performs at gigs. His appearances have taken the form of pure hardware live sets characterized by improvisation with nothing prepared beforehand. Such a riskyconceptconforms with his determination to produce something truly unique, resulting in no two live sets ever to be the same while always communicating with the audience through his machines.CutOff!CutOff!'s persistence to contribute something significant in a sea of noise led in the past to a Ph.D in the area of human rights and international relations. While his musical ventures nearly came to a halt during this period, in the long run he gained insights applicable to the creative process, such as the ability to recognize and connect seemingly unrelated patterns. Accordingly, he draws inspiration from all aspects of reality for his productions –be it the conversion of mathematical concepts into rhythmic sequences or the translation of abstract expressionists' technique of paintingveils of layers into an aural experience by means of granular synthesis. All this helped him to spur his passion for electronic music and enter into his yet most productive period.
