Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards met during 1970, as fellow session musicians working in the New York City area. They formed a rock band named 'The Boys' and later 'The Big Apple Band,' playing numerous gigs around New York City. Despite interest in their demos, they never got a record contract. The original demo tapes were made by DJ/studio engineer Robert Drake, who first played lacquer records while DJing at a New York after hours club, Night Owl. The title of the first song recorded as Chic was "Everybody Dance" which was on their first album.

In 1985, Koto released "Visitors", and today is considered one of the best Italo-disco songs. In an interview with Maiola, he confirmed it was his favourite Koto song. The track contains a sample from Michael Jackson's 1984 hit "Thriller". The following year, he released another single "Jabdah". Fuelled by a music video, the song became a big hit, charting in Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland. Around this time, critics coined the term "spacesynth", which combines elements of italo-disco and space disco. "Visitors" and "Jabdah" are considered part of the genre. In 1987, a megamix was released, combining elements of their previous four singles.

Cut & Shut Disco are the East End party crew who have been earning their beer tokens on the scene for several years now. Their left-field selections of all genres from disco, house and techno to cosmic rock and post punk jams have seen them playing in most dark corners of East London.

Cut & Shut Disco are the East London collective who have been forging their unique take on leftfield dance music for several years. Having spent the best part of a decade djing together, throwing their own intimate parties and guesting at others, they have found their own esoteric style which takes in House, Disco and Techno. Balearic, New Beat and Rock. Afro and Italo. All brought together by an open musical policy and rarefied selections.

Cut & Shut continue to dig deep and with some great events under there belts including Love International Festival, The Secret Garden party, Lovebox, Snowbombing, Love Fever,  Little London Fields Festival/SPINLDN and residencies at The Horse & Groom, East Village, Old Queens Head, The Kenton, Dinerama/Streetfeast, Clapton Heart, The Gun etc etc....
