We're celebrating the legendary imprint Night Slugs' 15th anniversary this month on our mix series! Founded by Alex Sushon (Bok Bok) and James Connolly (L-Vis 1990), Night Slugs was initially launched as a club night series after Alex and James met on Myspace in 2008, expanding into a record label in 2010. From then, Night Slugs quickly became one of the distinctive dance music labels of the 2010s as they pushed a hybrid of grime, house, electro, R&B, hip hop and dubstep. With a lasting influence across the globe to this day, the label released career defining releases from the likes of Jam City, Girl Unit, Mosca, Jacques Greene, Lil Silva and more. To celebrate their 15th anniversary, Night Slugs have pulled together the 'Classic Remixed' compilation which fuses the label's past, present and future with artists taking on remixes of the label's classics. These remixers include Night Slugs family Ikonika, Helix, CalvoMusic & OSSX, as well as many of the labels peers and next-gen favourites including Grandmixxer, Bored Lord, MoMa Ready, Hagan, Karen Nyame KG, River Moon, DJ Polo & NKC, DJ Lag, scotti dee and more.

Next up in the takeover we have the legend, Bok Bok, who brings us “an hour of non-stop momentum with funky/deep house, gqom and rolling London sounds in the mix & blend”. Aside from being one of the co-founders Night Slugs party and record label, Bok Bok is an esteemed producer and engineer in their own right who has released a slew of knockout solo releases, contributed to compilations for Manara and PDA, mastered records for the likes of FAUZIA and launched their own label AP Life in 2021 as a nod to the DJ and dubplate culture they grew up on. They're also a longstanding resident on Rinse FM.

Get ready to bounce to club-forward sounds spanning from bmore club, juke/footwork, hard drum, jersey club, breaks, and other electrifying sounds hailing from the East / Southeast Asian diaspora. This event acted as a fundraiser to help provide donations to those severely affected by the devastating Palisades and Altadena fires in California.

“what does it feel like to be seen in sound?” every track choice was driven by the question. this mix feels like entering a foggy tunnel at full speed, where every twist in rhythm disorients and grounds you at the same time. we wanted it to pulse with low-end sounds but still feel shapeshifting—like water morphing through bass, breaks, and rave-coded emotion.
there are moments that feel like you’re floating—slightly euphoric, like you’ve stumbled into a memory mid-dance. then it jolts you back with tension and grit, reminding you this is bass music rooted in friction, in forward motion. for us, this set is about internal motion as much as physical release—leaning into feeling unstable, ecstatic, untethered
it’s a set full of murky basslines, slippery rhythms, and flickers of euphoria—especially on tracks like maara’s “big whoops” or ltj bukem’s “demons theme pt. ii,” which we treat almost like emotional anchors. we also snuck in some electro-tech heat from aloka and mr. ho, whose sounds are both chaotic and incredibly precise..
we approached it as a kind of emotional architecture: cool tones and percussive muscle early on, slowly building heat and sweat before slipping into that late-night, emotional rinse.
