A new set from the ‘Before The Curfew’ series is up on SoundCloud. This set was played by tofudj on 18th of February at Ground Floor. 

tofudj is an artist from Poltava who has long made a name for himself as a fixture of Kyiv’s music scene. One of the pep gaffe label cofounders and Standard Deviation frequent collaborator, he is known for his uncompromising experimental sound, which he effortlessly combines with classic dance rhythms.

The series is updated on a weekly basis with recordings of sets that have been played in our space since the beginning of the russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Tune in and don't forget to support  the Ukrainian army, volunteer organizations and funds, including the ∄ Community Fund which continues to support volunteer initiatives from representatives of our community.

His career includes performances at major Ukrainian music festivals such as Strichka, Brave! Factory, Black! Factory, and Natura by Rhythm Buro, as well as at world-famous clubs like Panorama Bar in Berlin and Le Bain in New York.

“This was my favorite Backyard set. Everything clicked — the dancefloor energy, complete immersion in the moment, the emotional swings of the tracks. Quirky house, vintage trance, modern bangers, and tracks my subconscious dug up from the most unexpected playlists in the last half hour of the set,” the artist shared.

Before the Curfew is a series of music podcasts that emerged in 2022 after the reopening of the club following the liberation of the Kyiv region. All recordings presented in this series take place before midnight before the curfew begins. Before the Curfew offers a vibrant snapshot of the Ukrainian music scene amidst challenging times, celebrating resilience, creativity, and unity through music.

This track was inspired by 825hp by exodia one of my absolute favorite songs. I wanted to capture that same retro arcade racing game energy I grew up with. I used to spend hours playing those games in the arcades, and at home I was obsessed with Gran Turismo 4 not just the game itself, but the music, the aesthetic, and the whole atmosphere it created.

I tried to bring that feeling back with 888hp : the warmth, the speed, and the nostalgic grit. I clipped and shaped the highs a bit to get that same kind of lo-fi distortion you’d hear through old arcade or TV speakers that imperfect but magical sound that makes you feel like you’re right there again.
