Avoidant drops part 1 of their new V/A EP series, Distortion Strategy.
Glasgow based Avoidant Records return with another finely tuned VA, dedicated to some of Electro’s best up and coming talent. This latest releases spans 6 tracks of pure electronic funk thats bleeds into darker, club orientated music.
Coming out of left field, Helsmoortel’s ‘Raided’ opens the compilation with a slice of bass driven funk. Romanian based producer Andrew Red Hand drops the twisted, Detroit influenced ‘Out Of Control’; it’s heady yet melodic driven riffs will easily shatter speakers. Atix is up next with a decidedly rapid helping of raw and direct electro-funked beats on ‘White Shadow’. Straight from the mega mind is the mechanised sound of Corvad & Harry Kane’s ‘Robot Music’. The dark and twisted ‘Double Standard’ from Igor Filippov adds yet more propulsion to the VA and closing out proceedings is 88756 with his retro sounding ‘Iterate And Obliterate’.

As the entropy of the universe increases inexorably and order gives way to chaos, I try on a new stage of interconnectedness that humanity will be forced to enter very soon.

"ENTERTROPY" is the interplay of the timbres of the real sound world, mined with homemade sensors and sounds found on the vastness of the web, patterns of behavior of various physical systems, or mathematical models.

The intricate semantic web grows in complexity until it becomes a homogeneous structure, no longer delivering specific information but containing a variety of meanings within itself until the sound web reaches a certain level of entropy as it weaves.

Eventually, this blending of the tangible and the virtual, the analog and the digital, takes the form of danceable electronica. Each such experiment has an uncertain outcome even when the work on the track is finished.

Since his last outing on Control Freak with the sold-out Bunzunkunzun EP, Syz has built a reputation as one of the UKs most distinctive club producers, weaving playful, percussive techno with soundsystem-driven bass music. Releases via Shanti Celeste’s Peach Discs and more recently on Banoffee Pies have cemented his position as a rising star of the UK scene.

Much of this acclaim started with 2020’s Mindforms - a self-released mini-LP which saw the young producer step away from the dancefloor to explore an expansive sonic world, ‘balancing the tranquility of the ecological world with the immediacy of the digital one’.

The original release was accompanied by a highly limited run of just 10 dubplates. Deeming this 6-tracker too good not to receive a proper pressing, Control Freak are proud to present the first ever complete vinyl run for Mindforms, housed in full-colour centre-cut sleeves featuring an adaptation of the original artwork by Jamie Fallon (Ghost Cell), reworked by London-based designer Blixa Aguerreberry.

Alongside the record, Syz & Control Freak have curated Clubforms, a collection of remixes from some of our favourite producers, each bringing the original release firmly onto the dancefloor with their own production flourishes. Daisy Moon takes a decidedly Bristolian approach, delivering a scorching hot, bass-driven club stomper.

'16 O's' came about when Hojo was working on a flip of the Lewisham MC's 2015 classic, '1 Sec', in a Dalston studio, while - unbeknownst to him - Nov was working next door. When the rapper heard the rework, he jumped in the booth to record a relentless spray of original bars, which Hojo reworked into a breaksy 4/4 slammer, sparingly overlaid with a dubstep top bass”.
