Quantum States

This one came together in that easy winter groove where reggae meets memory. I’d been thinking about Northampton in December, the way a moment can freeze itself into the heart, and the lyrics just unfolded from there. We tried something different this time and put the lead violin right where the guitar would usually sit. That gave the whole track a softer, more intimate glow, almost like the melody was breathing out its own little cloud of winter air. The rest of the band kept things steady and warm, even with the brass section out for family commitments. It ended up giving the rhythm section more space to move, and the tune settled into a gentle, reflective sway. I’m glad we followed that instinct. It feels like a quiet walk through town at dusk, with just enough light to guide the way.

I didn’t want to write it as a complaint so much as a reflection on memory, hope, and the way a venue becomes part of a community’s heartbeat. The reggae groove helped hold that feeling of waiting without losing the warmth. I leaned into the details that everyone around here keeps talking about: the lost license, the stalled reopening, the artists whose names once lit the marquee, and the way local businesses still feel the ripple. What surprised me most while writing was how much optimism slipped in on its own. Even with the doors closed, the hope for that room is still alive, and the song tries to carry that flicker. Maybe that’s what keeps the Calvin’s story from going dark for good.
