Requiem for the merles (Theatre Theme)

Monsarrat's international best-selling novel finally hits the local theatre stage. Adapted by award-winning author Immanuel Mifsud, Il- Kappillan ta' Malta is not only a story about Malta, but also of a unique, charismatic and driven priest, Father Salvatore. As bombs pound Malta to dust, he finds himself caught in the cataclysmic drama of World War Two. The production is produced by Staġun Teatru Malti in association with Teatru Manoel and is part of the Malta Arts Festival

Similarly arranged as the poem it takes its name from, DIVINA is composed of three acts, namely Inferno (Hell), Purgatorio (Purgatory) and Paradiso (Heaven). The journey is narrated through dance, poetry, song and music.

The three acts are visually and conceptually distinct. Each act is a choreographic interpretation of the various states of being explored in Dante’s epic "La Divina Commedia"

DIVINA - Music Selection (20mins) - a contemporary dance performance

A non-verbal visual theatre performance . The rubberbodies collective present White Sea (Baħar Abjad), a 50-minute non-verbal visual theatre performance. This is the third performance project of the collective. Hailing from an island surrounded by the sea, the collective created a work based around the liquid mass. The performance will be based on the story of two women and the journey of their lives shaped by their connection to the sea. The port is a space full of energies, characters and stories and this historical richness is implanted in each of our cells, creating a unique community with its own maritime heritage. Rubberbodies will connect two lives through detailed beauty which once belonged to the life of the port.

Return Of Persephone (excerpt)

The production is about "demonic possession" and yes there are funny moments in it. Lots of them. Nonetheless the subject matter is such that the humour is constantly being countered by intense scenes that many may find disturbing. There are moments which are intentionally designed to jolt and scare, all of course, within the realm of theatrical entertainment. This is not a farce. Far from it. Following Stagun Teatru Malti's modus operandi, it is designed to unabashedly push traditional Maltese theatrical boundaries, of content, dialogue (there is ample use of vulgar language) and style. Not for the squeamish. Written and directed by Mario Philip Azzopardi. Venue: Manuel Theatre.

Lore of the Sea ( Theatre Theme )

'EnShrine' are Cygna’s new ethereal live surround sound performances.  Cygna embodies the memories of the space and, as such, spatializes these memories through a recollection of vocal and synth works in reminiscence. EnShrine 1 will take place within St Anne Church in Pjazza D'Armi, Fort St Elmo on the 1st of October 2016.

'Penelope: Dust in our awakened dreams', exposes the human emotions buried within the experiences of the dancer's body. Through contortion, the folding and unfolding of the body, the performer will lead audiences on a journey through her past and then into her present. Restless memories buried in her female soul are brought forward and given a final hearing.

Mario Sammut is a musician, composer, sound designer and music producer working within his Silent Studio and is signed with Ultimae Records in France. Studying classical piano and later upgraded to other electronic instruments, while enrolling for digital & analog electronics engineering led him to a few of his own instrument inventions. Under project name Cygna he composed a series of symphonic ambient compositions within which he connects contemporary ambient sound with classical instruments. In 2011 he launched his album "Opus Ena" at the National Museum of Fine Arts and it is distributed worldwide. 
As composer and sound designer he composed and collaborated on a big number of films, theatre productions, dance projects, visual and interactive art works, live cinema performances, as well as composing for feature films, documentaries and TV series.
Sammut has participated at numerous international art festivals around Europe such as Glastonbury festival in UK, Aurora in Greece; Sun festival in Hungary, Hadra in France, amongst many others.
In 2012, he held a unique, silent concert with wire-less headphones inside the UNSECO heritage site Hagar Qim Temple He is currently preparing for another release entitled 'Music for Theatre' incorporating a selection of soundtracks he composed for theatre, while also working on a research projects that will be revealed soon!
