My father, Earl Haring, played trumpet 24/7 from the age of 5. He was so completely in love with the instrument that he used to practice his trumpet eight hours a day just for fun, my grandmother told me. In California he performed with many groups and often played trumpet and sang as part of a studio or live band behind famous artists such as Judy Garland, Johnny Mathis, Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, and Frank Sinatra. When my mother, an Iowa girl, went to visit her Aunt Gladys at Lake Tahoe, my dad spotted her and knew she was the woman for him. Nothing seemed to win her over until he sang "I Don't Know Why" to her from the stage, gazing into her eyes the whole time. Finally, at the age of 83 he recorded this song (their love song) as a surprise for mother on their 59th wedding anniversary, and she loved it.

"Up on the Roof" was a hit song for the Drifters. When Bobby Hendricks (from the Drifters) was in the studio recording some other songs with us a couple years ago, I asked if he would be willing to sing back up vocals on my version of the song. He said yes, and then he proceeded to sing the back ups while coaching one of our World Nation singers, Aditya Shah, to sing with him. This is the result of that collaboration with Bobby and Aditya.

When we first decided to do a doo wop, pop and swing album, we approached Richie Merritt, who performed with the Marcels (the group that had a hit record with "Blue Moon,") to sing with us. He was happy to work with us, and we valued his contribution to our music. Richie and I are singing lead on this version of "Blue Moon," with some of our World Nation kids joining me on back-up harmonies.

Cynthia Haring (aka Destiny Quibble), a native of Iowa, is a poet, singer & songwriter who sings in 12 languages and most frequently plays six and 12-string guitar during shows. She is best known for her "Greatest Generation Music Tributes" of doo wop, pop & swing songs with World Nation, her ethnic music albums & performances, and her efforts to legalize street performance in Chicago in the 80s. Haring often features talented children & teens at her shows and on her albums. Haring’s discography includes: "Cruisin’ in My Wagon: A Journey through Doo Wop, Pop & Swing” (2013), “The Life & Times of Destiny Quibble," a 29-year music retrospective (2011).  She has taught English to Speakers of Other Languages for over 30 years in Iowa, Chicago, Arizona, Puerto Rico & Florida. 

Among Haring’s early Destiny Quibble recordings is a Fever Records 45, "She Told Me" b/w "Face of the Clock" (1985); a collaboration with Howard Kongsgaard, "Ohhaaa," featured on Northwestern’s WNUR radio compilation, "Heat from the Wind Chill Factory"(1985); and "Public Rehearsals," an original EP recorded at Chicago Trax (1983). Current projects: “School of Fish: World Music Explorations in 12 Languages,” featuring World Nation children’s groups from Iowa-Illinois, Arizona & Florida and a new doo wop/pop CD.
