After a small hiatus, Uprise Audio burst back into action with their next release ‘Parallel EP’ by Kyrist - one of the hottest properties in Drum And Bass right now. Kyrist marks her effortless transition to the 140 realm with four cutting edge tracks displaying a plethora of styles, technique and soul. The brilliance on display here showcases why she has made such an impact on the Drum And Bass scene, and signals for the world of Dubstep to take note and pay attention.

The EP kicks off with ‘Cry’ which as suggested in the title is tinged in emotion. Haunting melodic vocals are paired with an energetic palette of percussion and intelligent sound design riding the rhythm track concocting an array of sonic bliss. 

‘Chime’ begins with a much sharper intention and with a snare that you can feel in your chest. With a colder approach, the emotions are stripped back to allow the sub bass to resonate freely, giving space to growling mids and tense riser FX, summarised into a heavy tech step, space age feel.

The third track, ‘Gateway’, conjures beauty with space. Sticking to a tech stepping agenda laid down by the first two tracks, the intricate arrangement of mid-range sounds form a unique groove which carries the listener on a journey through intergalactic soundscapes.

The EP closes with ‘Solace’ which continues the cosmic journey we have have embarked upon. Jungle-esque break beats are navigated by forward thinking sound design elements, creating an ever shifting groove pattern within its detailed array of sounds. 

‘Parallel EP’ is a classy first outing from Kyrist in to the dubstep world and stylistically could not have landed on a more suited home than Uprise Audio. The release acts as a serious statement of intent from the label who burst back into the new year, reinvigorated to continue their ethos of developing new and exciting artists in to some of Dubsteps brightest talents.

Heavy subs wrap the track in a blanket of warmth. Tight, crisp high frequencies overlay the top end of the recording and to finish it off there are some well placed vocal samples sealing the production. Beautiful!

Defy Records and Truth today release the first installment of Truth's “Love's Shadow” Album. The entire album is being released for free, split between a sampler (already released) and two EPs.

This is Truth's second full-length album and features collaborations with some of the Dubstep scenes biggest artists such as Datsik and Kromestar. Further down the track will be a remix album containing work from J:Kenzo, Riskotheque, Marchmellow, Vicious Circle, Biome, Seven, Megalodon, Perverse, Von D, DJ Madd and Optimus Gryme among others.

The pedigree of Truth's releases to date speaks for itself. Among the tsunami of music unleashed on the Dubstep world by this duo from New Zealand (which includes appearing on 24 vinyl singles in the past 3 years) are three vinyl releases on Mala's foundational Deep Medi label, a recent 12” on the mighty Tempa Records and a debut album (Puppets) which has gone on to become a classic since it's release in 2010.

Truth are currently on a 6 week release tour which covers the Outlook and Burning Man festivals, a 20 date Europe tour, a New Zealand tour and multiple USA bookings.

A veteran of the dubstep scene since it’s inception in early 2003, you couldn’t get better credentials for being a dubstep legend than Cyrus. Born and raised in the home of dubstep, Croydon (UK), home to fellow pioneers Skream, Benny ill and Benga. Indeed his story is almost identikit to his peers; djing drum and bass and then garage, honing his skills on pirate radio and local club residencies, the then 18-year-old got hooked on making music and had early success drawing major label interest. From there, Cyrus decided to shun the expensive professional route realizing he could get his own unique sound with a DIY set up. In 2003/ 04 with limited places to release his dark, brooding, boundary pushing take on UK Garage, Cyrus started his Random Trio Production imprint and launched the Lost City Ep, a track Hyperdub head honcho, Kode 9, battered at dubstep institution Forward. Having found a sound he could call his own, Cyrus’s perseverance paid off landing a regular slot on legendary pirate Rinse FM in 2004, and alongside Hatcha and Kode 9, was one of the only DJ pushing the dubstep sound. Perfectly placed, there was no shortage of interest in his sound. Cyrus’s brutally minimalistic, hypnotic and cavernous sound is beautifully captured on his critically acclaimed album From The Shadows on Pinch’s Tectonic label. Further releases with Chestplate and Deep medi have helped to cement his reputation as a key producer. And, It was no surprise when one of his more cinematic tracks featured in a major film. Indian Stomp appeared alongside Digital Mystikz and Kode 9, and also rather impressively, John Lennon, on the soundtrack for Children of Men. “The track was originally to be used in a hit US TV show, so to be told it was gonna be used in a blockbuster film was surreal.” A main fixture at all the top dubstep nights - DMZ, Sub Dub, FWD - Cyrus has also DJ’d the world over and the desire for his sub atomic bass weight is constantly in demand. In August 2008, he was asked to be part of Mary Anne Hobbs prestigious Generation Bass show on international BBC Radio One, a vital and important platform for dubstep. With regular Shows on London's Kiss fm and more recently being added to the bbc radio 1 xtra "daily dose of dubstep" rosta with the full chestplate family. Cyrus continues to support and release the best in underground 'dubstep' music.
