Yep, it’s become exceptionally clear that the holiday period is are over but that doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing. No; there's plenty that we can draw from the elements running wild at this time of year. Train yourself to think more in a more positive light, just as Hybrid Recordings boss Cari Lekebusch has done in his latest mix for us. Referencing his homeland's own frozen environment he's put together a selection that injects a tangible yet mystic energy into the fold. It’s also the perfect indicator of what we can expect from his next visit to Farringdon later this month when he joins Terry Francis and Peter Van Hoesen in Room Two.

Having never been one willing to settle for what may be considered normal, GOAT takes us on a trip through some of the tracks in his collection which have been burning a hole in his flash drives as of late. Showcasing a variety of sounds from Lo-Fi house through to an onslaught of high energy, rolling techno and spanning a monster 1 hour 50 minutes. This session is an excellent indicator of what selections might be in store from our very own techno pet.

Apogee 001 // GOAT

Just a few years ago, Daniel Avery emerged from a famous Scrutton Street studio where the likes of Andrew Weatherall and Timothy J FairPlay were regulars. Since then, he has gone his own way, releasing a machine made, proudly analogue brand of indie-electro-techno-dance music that has come mostly on Errol Alkan’s Phantasy Sound label. Mixing dark beats with dense and smoky synth atmospheres as both a DJ and producer, he knows how to cook up a metallic and menacing groove with aplomb. After impressing with his debut album, Drone Logic, in 2013, we're proud to invite him to this year's Lente Kabinet, Dekmantel Festival (together with Roman Flügel), and our mix series. 

The fabric resident kicks off his mix with some heady drones and deep, spacious grooves that are eerie and unsettling. The next 90 odd minutes sees him blend sublime acid, slithering synths and increasingly minimal techno into a seductive set that is expertly paced and seamlessly mixed. Perfect for the dead of night in some intimate back room, it shows a heady and atmospheric side to Avery that is truly compelling. 

Dekmantel Podcast 060 - Daniel Avery

This week's Source to Cycle podcast comes from David Alvarado. The LA based DJ and producer continues a career that has spanned over 15 years, and is still considered to be one of electronic music’s best kept secrets. He is best known for his work on some of the worlds most respected imprints such as Ovum, Ultra, Peacefrog, NRK, Yoshi Toshi, Plastic City, Strictly Rhythm, and Guidance, along with his early work on his own label Bomb Records.

David began his career as a DJ running a renegade sound system and deejaying underground parties around the Los Angeles area. He quickly made an impact on the American electronic music scene with his unique style and signature music selection. His work as a producer and artist began to take root after a chance meeting with the legendary Plus 8 duo, Richie Hawtin and John Acquaviva, who stumbled across one of his very first works and invited him to be a part of their newly formed Definitive Records. From there David forged relationships, and created a body of work that would take him around the world, opening the door to performances at legendary clubs and events such as The Ministry of Sound, The Hacienda, E-Werk, Tresor, Florida 135, Row Club, Panorama Bar, The Arches, Extrema Festival, Sonar.
