Christal is the label co/owner of the prominent Drum & Bass label - Smooth N Groove Records alongside Clen. The label is based out of Northampton, UK and Washington DC, USA. Smooth N Groove Records launched in May 2016 opening with their first release, Jrumhand’s Beaches & Countryside.

Smooth N Groove Records is a Drum & Bass label dedicated to bringing atmospheric, Funky, Soulful, rolling vibez from the best in the scene to the ears of all listeners. Since its conception Smooth N Groove has established a respectable place within the scene with full support from their peers and an ever growing fan base.

Chris has been running a club night since 2018 alongside Soul Deep Recordings head honcho, Scott Allen, Clen and John Crossland, AKA SoulStructure. Appropriately named Soul Deep vs Smooth N Groove, representing artists from both labels to perform at their events. They have also taken the Soul Deep vs Smooth N Groove brand to the west coast of America hosting events in Los Angeles at Respect, and San Francisco at Stamina.

The next Soul Deep vs Smooth N Groove is planned to take place at Club 43, Northampton, UK, on August 5th.

I started off on a low 173 bpm with some atmospheric / soulful / liquid vibes and gradually tried to inch up the tempo as I made my way through different DNB micro-genres. There was dubby bassline rollers, minimal rollers, tech rollers, some weird glitchy stuff and some borderline cheesy big room dancefloor stuff for good measure — and it was all good clean fun. D:RC came up DJing (mostly drum'nbass) in the mid-90s while attending the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga. As founding member of the local Phungus, Playtheavy and Sleuth Empire crews he found himself at the center of a burgeoning rave scene, collaborating with friends on dance music events in the Athens/Atlanta areas and beyond.

In 2004 he founded Studio:Machina, a graphic design practice geared towards the music industry. Building on his behind the scenes expertise and keen artistic instincts he's become an in-demand contributor on artistic projects in a variety of media. He's toured the US as member of the Smookie Illson bass music trio, serves as creative director for the Chicago-based Illeven:Eleven Recordings label and functions as brand/art director of several nightlife concepts. 

Behind the decks he currently heavily favors the sounds of DNB, but brief forays into breakbeat, house, UK Garage + Bass and dubstep are not uncommon. Get to know.
