A much busier than usual IRL gig schedule has meant that my weekly Saturday evening streaming slot that was perfect during the pandemic is not as convenient now. I've had to miss several streams lately, but I'm thankful to my LLL crew for showing up even when I've had to move the slot around last minute. This Friday LLL edition was a fun one with the homies. Lots of people tuned in while wrapping presents and lots of wholesome cozy Christmas vibes. Glad I was able to get a stream in before Christmas. For the first session of the year I wanted to stick to more "traditional" liquid sounds for the first hour. Started out on a deep and funky groove and held that until about halfway when I moved into more chunky amen rollers and some jungle. Second hour was minimal bassline rollers into more uplifting and spacy vibe liquid rollers towards the end.

Guest Mix Vol. 168 (Mark Halflite - Sheer Velocity/Halflite Music ) Liquid Drum and Bass Session

For this mid-winter session, I wanted to do a callback to a winter mix series I used to do called 'Seasonal Affective Disorder' that focused on darker, more melancholy selections. First 30 or 40 minutes or so were pretty deep. In the middle section I moved into more angular sci-fi liquid and eventually into some minimal tech stuff. The middle part into the second hour might have gotten a little nastier than initially intended, but there's some cool tech rollers, some dark dubby rollers, before I smooth it out again towards the end with some liquid rollers. All in all I was pretty happy with how it turned out and I got to play some music in my collection I don't always get to play. Big up if you were there in the chat 🖤

Liquid Lovers Lounge (EP87|JAN21|2023)

The 2 hour format of this stream is one I've become so accustomed to  over time that I've fallen into some kind of well-worn routine of how I approach filling the time. The downside of that is that when I play IRL gigs and I only have one hour to fill, I have a hard time jumping right into the explosive sound and pacing you need to catch and hold the attention of say, a festival crowd. I've been digging through my collection and building more expansive playlists than I normally would in order to force myself out of my comfort zone and try out different set structures, but also to play the type of energetic tunes I tend to avoid sometimes. Sometimes the experiments work, sometimes they don't, but it's always an entertaining endeavor trying to find out.

D:RC came up DJing (mostly drum'nbass) in the mid-90s while attending the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga. As founding member of the local Phungus, Playtheavy and Sleuth Empire crews he found himself at the center of a burgeoning rave scene, collaborating with friends on dance music events in the Athens/Atlanta areas and beyond.

In 2004 he founded Studio:Machina, a graphic design practice geared towards the music industry. Building on his behind the scenes expertise and keen artistic instincts he's become an in-demand contributor on artistic projects in a variety of media. He's toured the US as member of the Smookie Illson bass music trio, serves as creative director for the Chicago-based Illeven:Eleven Recordings label and functions as brand/art director of several nightlife concepts. 

Behind the decks he currently heavily favors the sounds of DNB, but brief forays into breakbeat, house, UK Garage + Bass and dubstep are not uncommon. Get to know.
