D' Tripp was a band of seven musicians who wove, plaited or braided strands of funk, soul, rhythm, & roll into grooves. The players on this album were: Freedom Bremner [Lead Vocals & Percussion], Kismet Lyles [Lead Vocals], Mike D' Mac Barnes [Lead Guitars], Glen "Raging Bull" Mauser [Alto Saxophones & Keyboards], Lynne Superior [Tenor Saxophones & Vocals], Larry "Brother Love" Florman [Drums & Vocals], ShynDIGG [Bass & Lead Vocals].
D’Plaid Album, was originally called ”The” Plaid Album when it first was conceived in March of 1996. The tracks were written during the previous few years [‘93 thru ‘95]. The songs were recorded at the studio of Conrad “Hollywood” Gillenwater, who also engineered the sessions. Paul “Mr Thing” McGovern was the person who took an interest in the band after seeing them play at Nightengales in NYC and wanted to arrange a European tour for them. Product was needed so there was a rush to record in three weeks and immediately go on tour. However, the band didn’t think that the final sound mix/mastering of the album represented them well, but had to proceed, nonetheless. D'Tripp toured mostly the Scandinavian countries, traveling everyday and playing almost every night. After their return to the U.S the band went on a tireless playing schedule on the NY circuit with fans clamoring for a copy of the album. When the band ended in 2000 so did the album. In 2012, ShynDIGG, the former bandleader, re-edited, reimagined, re-arranged, remastered the existing tracks and as a bonus added three recordings from a previous session done in ‘94 that was part of their live set list and re-released the album with 14 tracks [originally 11] and an album title name change. After some research, ShynDIGG discovered that there were at least four or five other albums with same title; at least one or two, that had been released in the early nineties. To avoid confusion, ‘DIGG re-introduced the newly redone and better sounding album as D’PLAID ALBUM. Despite having two other periods, before & after, when great attempts were made to record & complete an album [‘92 & ‘98] D’Plaid Album is the only complete musical documentation of a band that lasted twelve yrs and was one of the more premier bands on the NYC nightclub live scene working it and playing to the fullest extent. It’s not just an album. It is proof, and it is forever. Thank you.
