of the global village. The kind of evening that spontaneously morphs into a party that ends with
breakfast and an invigorated sense of belonging and determination to be yourself and embrace
new opportunities.

With their debut album Transition D-Urbanites break the mould with an exquisite blend of jazz,
funk and electro sounds laced with soulful vocals.
Malik Esuo, the front man and producer of D-Urbanites, was born to a South-Moroccan migrant worker
and a Belgian mother. His paternal family tree shows a thick crown rich with traditional Moroccan
musicians. In the nineties he discovered acid jazz in London and he was soon compelled to move there.
He lived and worked in Brixton and became a frequent player on stages of clubs such as WKD.
Finding himself back in Belgium in the noughties, he wanted to create music with the same energy
and vibe that had drawn him to London. A tall hurdle to take was finding like-minded musicians
with whom this was possible. When Malik organized and hosted a singer's night and jam in Ghent
he met Stan Dale. The two clicked both on and off stage and soon became partners in crime.
Stan Dale holds a masters degree in music (jazz/pop) from the Conservatory of Ghent.
Not that he brags about it: “To this day I feel uncomfortable mentioning it. I don't think one lifetime
is sufficient to truly master music. There's just so much to learn and discover, it's a constant process of
honing your skills and broadening your horizon. That's what continues to motivate and inspire me.”
Malik Esuo and Stan Dale assembled a band of talented musicians from both sides of the channel.
Blending the Flemish clay with the London asphalt, they paved the road towards what ultimately
became Transition, D-Urbanites' debut album. The band features players such as British keyboardist
Robert Taylor (Aaron Wheeler, Maxi Priest, Jocelyn Brown, Billy Ocean) and Belgian-Congolese
drummer Sam N'Galula (Arno).
