Milan-based DJ & producer Skylin3 is one of our favourite new artists. His version of this Beyonce classic dropped at the end of last year, and DJs loved it. From the underground tech (Miane, Alan Nieves, Jamie Jones) to the house heads (Erik Hagleton, Sam Supplier, CASSIMM) to those more used to big-stage bangers (Torren Foot, Wenzday, Shiba San), there was an outpouring of love. The wider DJ community might have slept on this one, so we asked Kevin McKay to deliver a VIP edit to see if this could get the ball rolling. He's jacked up the beats and added a powerful FM mid-bass to jet-propel the groove—proper peak-time business.

Italian pioneer Marco Lys remixes an international club hit by Cool Jack on DFTD, ‘Just Come’. Cool Jack, comprised of influential DJ and Black Moon Records owner Angelino Albanese, producer Gianni Visnadi and vocalist Tom Hooker, originally released ‘Just Come’ in 1992. The addictive track then received remixes from DJ Sneak, Ralphi Rosario, The Sharp Boys and is now updated for modern clubs by fellow Italian Marco Lys. Nasser Baker makes his long-awaited return with an original track, the deep and mature house single ‘Notification’ on Defected. California-born and New Jersey-raised, Nasser Baker was discovered as a young artist by influential producer Dennis Ferrer, who signed Baker to his revered Objektivity label. The move resulted in several critically acclaimed EPs, putting the New Jersey talent on the maps of house music’s finest thanks to his broad and eclectic sound, holding a maturity well beyond its years as a result of analogue techniques combined with modern house sensibilities. Ever since, Nasser Baker’s approach has steered towards quality over quantity, with his releases proving well worth the wait in the eyes of tastemakers and fans alike. After remixing ‘Whisper’ on Defected in 2021, originally released by his mentor Dennis Ferrer alongside Disciples and James Yuill, Nasser Baker returns with ‘Notification’, a dark, slow burn of a record that highlights the producer’s tech side; a lively synth bass guides the creative use of voice note-like audio, weaving a story of tension and release as Nasser’s undulating production laces the track with addictive flavour.

CASSIMM drops another peak-time club weapon on Toolroom as he returns with ‘Say Yeah’ alongside vocalist Mahalia Fontaine. The Italian born House music maestro is on fine form as always here, hot on the heels of his ‘Love Desire’ record that went stratospheric in late 2023 on Claptone’s ‘Golden Recordings’ label. The track hit the #1 spot on Beatport and was in the top 3 tracks played in 2023 on 1001tracklists.

CASSIMM was also recently crowned the #1 House producer in Beatport’s end of year awards, an accolade to be proud of for sure! Trademark stuff here from CASSIMM, big basslines and oodles of dance floor energy and Mahalia’s rasping, diva style vocal adds that classic house vibe to proceedings – Essential club weaponry right here!

Hannah Wants unveils Ghetto EP on DFTD, a return to her edgier, bass-heavy roots with two distinct tracks designed for the club. Hannah’s trajectory throughout 2023 was signposted by performances at flagship events including Defected Croatia, Defected’s Australasian Tour and The Warehouse Project. In 2024, her collaboration with Sam Divine and Jem Cooke, ‘Cruel Intentions’, kicked off the year before Hannah appeared on the ambitious livestream celebrating 25 years of Defected with 25 titan DJs playing B2B in 2024. After a string of releases showcasing her more emotive side on the London house label, Hannah Wants now returns to the bass house sound she helmed for over a decade, releasing Ghetto EP on sister label DFTD. The first of two deeper, headsier cuts, ‘Ghetto’ offers relentless club energy, with deep, percussive synths that hammer away underneath expressive audio sampling. ‘Let The Beat Talk’ follows, featuring frequent Plump Records collaborator Baby Luck on cool vocals, with its hard and tough sound shaking the floor as high frequency synths bubble overhead.
