Here's an upfront preview of the new Bogdan Raczynski album, You're Only Young Once But You Can Be Stupid Forever, out now on Disciples. A collection of warmly melodic audio sketches, underpinned by his familiar lo-fi drums and odd synth patches, we feel this is Bogdan's finest album to date, an eminently listenable sequence of electronic gems. 

Raczynski first arrived on the scene in 1999 with not one but three albums released in quick succession that year alone on Rephlex Records, a unique operator even by braindance standards, rumoured to have been discovered by Aphex Twin whilst sleeping rough in Tokyo. A steady stream of records followed, hyperactive broadsides of percussion set off by a winning knack for the buried earworm hook, much like his mentor RDJ. From his earliest rephlexions on hallucinatory, bassbin-rattling IDM with Boku Mo Wakaran, the outsider junglism of the '96 Drum n Bass Classixxx “compilation” to a mini-album of traditional Polish folk music, Muzyka Dla Imigrantów, his early catalogue is as rich as it is prolific. He also collaborated with Björk and remixed Autechre for Warp's 10+3 compilation. 

In 2019, Disciples began looking after his Rephlex era catalogue, putting together the Rave 'Till You Cry compilation of unreleased gold from the vaults, and reissuing his classic Samurai Math Beats LP. His last studio album, ADDLE, came out on Planet Mu in 2022.

Heavyweight collab alert! Suzi Analogue debuts new music in the shape of this meet-up with 2023 Pulitzer Prize finalist Jlin.

Taking the raw parts from Suzi’s track “Stay Ready”, Jlin has constructed a frenetic, heavily percussive dancefloor workout, insectoid rhythm clusters and refracted sound arcs beamed from an alternate reality in which techno has foregone formulaic rules and still contains a genuine promise of the future.

This is the first single from Suzi’s upcoming new mixtape, Onez, the follow-up to the Infinite Zonez compilation LP released on Disciples in 2022. Whereas the previous release sought to document the Suzi Analogue story up until that point, taking an archival approach and focusing on the astonishing ‘Zonez’ series of tracks, Onez looks to the next stage in the artist’s evolution, pulling together brand new tracks, one-off collaborations, exclusive remixes and special DJ edits.

A Time-Travelling Evangelist’s Guide to Late 20th Century Underground Music

An eclectic compilation album celebrating twenty ‘tips of the tongue’ from David Keenan, released to coincide with a book of his collected music writing.

As well as being the title of a book. Volcanic Tongue was a record shop that existed in Glasgow from 2005 to 2015, run by David Keenan and Heather Leigh, it championed contemporary DIY music from around the world, often released in tiny runs on homemade CD-Rs, and also sought to shine a light on forgotten artists from the past, who had often released their music as a ‘private press’ LP. The shop was also known for it’s weekly mailing list, with Keenan enthusiastically rapping about new arrivals, especially the record of the week, given the sobriquet ‘tip of the tongue’. This collection has been put together from releases that were a ‘tip of the tongue’, containing music that runs the gamut from outsider synth to psych-folk to damaged rock’n’roll, with tracks recorded between 1968 and 2013, a celebration of a vibrant and eclectic underground avant-garde.

One afternoon in 1968, five teenagers went into a recording studio above a drugstore in Barrington, Illinois and laid down Out Of The Bachs, one of the great ‘lost’ records made in the entire decade. Compared to their many garage band peers across the United States, The Bachs stood out by coming up with eleven jaw-dropping original compositions, accidentally captured (the studio was more used to recording local string quartets and choirs) with an otherworldly ambience which makes the tracks sound like nothing else before or since. Endlessly bootlegged, worshipped by the true heads, The Bachs are forever.

A quickfire follow-up to the recently released set of unreleased braindance damage Rave ‘Till You Cry, this mixtape sees up-and-coming electronic producer 8Ball (Grade10) unleashed on Bodgan’s classic Rephlex catalogue. Taking tracks from 99’s Samurai Math Beats through to 07’s Alright!, he stitches together a seamless hour-long journey through Bogdan’s alien melodies and off-centre rhythms, augmented with liberal doses of FX and amen breaks.

8Ball has established a name for himself in recent years through 2 excellent EPs that explore the intersection of ambient, jungle and hardcore. He’s a key member of Leicester’s Grade10 crew whose activities include a label, radio show, the Back To Life parties, and the recently opened Out Of Joint record shop.

One of the Disciples Matthew also runs a reggae disco in his local pub with a pal, and a few years back put this mix together for o.g. Disciple Luke and his Too Fucked To Dance mixtape series, good excuse to dig through our old Suburban Base / Moving Shadow / Obscure white label 12"s. It's very rare that we get to play jungle out, the general reggae disco we run being on more of a downbeat and dubbed out side, but it's always fun when we do.

The limited edition cassette version of this (with hand-stamped outer box)on TFTD is long gone. TFTD has now mutated into Iceman Junglist Kru / Grimescapes, check it out.
