There’s an optimism for connection across cultures in Earth, Wind & Fire’s music. The band’s leader, Maurice White, described music as a “universal language”. Within the mix, we reflect on the urgent need for a new world and the dream of cross-cultural connection. Alexander Powers aka Female Wizard has vitalised Naarm/Melbourne’s dance music community for almost a decade, spearheading a new wave of queer DJing and playing acclaimed festivals and events such as CTM Festival, Boiler Room, Golden Plains, Dark Mofo, and Soft Centre. Her galvanizing sets, known for creating collective transcendence through powerful sonic immersion, have featured on globally renowned music broadcasting platforms Refuge Worldwide, NTS and Rinse FM, and in her six-year residency at local cult underground queer night Le Fag. In 2021, she was awarded Best Electronic Act at the Music Victoria Awards and has released three albums of experimental techno.
