'Meditations' is the first iteration of an ongoing exploration of queering modern modes of meditation in the digital age. This concept formed in July 2023 when I was experiencing a great deal of anxiety, and I turned to online, guided meditations to try to console my fears and anxieties that I face as a queer person.

In turning to these guided meditations, videos, and texts, I struggled to find a voice that addressed the fears and anxieties that we, as queer people, face through gender dysphoria, insecurities, self-acceptance, and coming to terms with our place in the world.

This led me to a pivotal question: 'If a queer meditation were to exist, what would it sound like?'

For cultural safety reasons, the queering of meditation in this series strictly responds to modern modes of ‘guided meditation’ in post-neoliberal, digital settings. Any creative offerings born from this series are not expressed to disrupt or dismiss any culturally significant forms of meditation that have been established over past centuries.

I would like to acknowledge that these songs were produced on the unceded lands of the Wurundjeri-Woi-Wurrung People of the Kulin Nation. Sovereignty was never ceded. Always was and always will be Aboriginal land.

Recorded and arranged in Ableton 10 using synthesizers held by the Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio (MESS), North Melbourne.

In 2002, Underground Resistance released 'Transition', a track that is now regarded as one of the most formative dance music tracks of the early 2000s. Lyrically, the track expresses change, development, and growth through self-actualization and recognizing one's dreams.

As queer people, the concept of transitioning is fundamental. To constantly grow and change and adapt is essential to becoming one's truest self, which is something I reflected on a lot when I put this remix together.

This remix is dedicated to everyone who has made their transition to become their truest self and everyone who commits to their transition as a life-long journey.

100% of proceeds will be donated to the Trans and Gender Diverse Incarcerated Fund, a community fund that supports currently and recently incarcerated trans and gender diverse people in so-called 'Australia'. 

Without the legacy, life, and love of trans and gender diverse people, dance music could never be what it is today. This EP honours the trans and gender-diverse community who have been, and always will be, the beating heart of queer electronic music.

He's released 3 records with Hugo Jay as DJ Kush Boogie on Lobster Theremin and also flies solo, making ambient/drone/house that hasn't been released (yet). in his own words, d. tryone's biggest influences are "queer/trans/poc artists and labels that do the most to feminise and challenge the mostly white, male global techno scene (in particular Discwoman, directory service and naive to name a few)" - which is so important and cute all in one, just like him - "Aside from that I think my biggest influence are the earlier african american Detroit/NYC/Chicago DJs and producers that built the foundations that techno relies on today (Derrick May, Juan Atkins, Gerald Mitchell, Paul Johnston, Jeff Mills, too many to mention)". A clear highlight of Beacon Festival was D.Tyrone's pumping live debut. This wasn't unexpected. The Melbourne-based producer is one of the strongest dance talents from Aotearoa at present, having released a solid solo long player for Head Rush Enterprises, three EPs for Lobster Theremin as part of dj kush boogie, and hosted numerous dances with the Night Pottery and INKY WAVES crews.
