Alan Fitzpatrick’s We Are The Brave imprint has undoubtedly laid down seriously solid foundations. Now well into double figure, the label’s catalogue is forming into a formidable body of work with Alan’s anthemic ‘We Do What We Want’ backed up with a string of club bangers from Gary Beck, Reset Robot and Boxia, plus Fitzpatrick’s mammoth ‘El Jefe’ collaboration with Sasha, which closed out the labels 2017 release schedule in grand style.

Never one to rest on his laurels, Fitzpatrick is back in the driving seat and raring to go again. “I feel a real strong energy right now around the label and I am massively focused on pushing on from the really great start We Are The Brave has enjoyed”, he enthuses. To be fair it is not hard to see why with landmark occasions such as the highly anticipated (and totally sold out) 5000 capacity Alan Fitzpatrick’s Day Festival happening in Dublin on 17th March. After all, who can argue with that most over-used of clichés - fortune favours the Brave!

Of course, Alan’s first release of the year is a mega one. “These tracks have all been born in a different time and space, ranging all the way back in 2015 through to the end of last year. But I think together they fit well, which goes to show that like everything really, but certainly anything creative, it doesn’t make sense to rush things” says Alan

Lead track ‘Colour Of A Dream’ comes with cleverly crafted percussion and energetic claps alongside a dominant vocal, making the track instantly recognizable in the depths of any dancefloor. “I found myself looking back through old hard drives and I guess I found a lot of fresh inspiration from rediscovering music. It feels good to know an idea that has been lay dormant can all of a sudden become relevant, given the right time and space” adds Alan.

Next up, surging with fierce authority is ‘Joy Rider’ with its trademark thumping Fitzpatrick kick drum. A ravey synthetic hook line creates a gritty warehouse vibe, which is in complete contrast to the melodic, end-of-night-euphoria experience that is ‘Together Until The End’ - a truly musical work that oozes texture and emotion.

Two contrasting remixes of ‘Space Date’ come courtesy of Pleasurekraft and John Monkman, as the three-way collaboration between Adam Beyer, Layton Giordani and Green Velvet continues to thrill. Joining the strong reworks is an unexpected treat for fans; a last-minute inclusion of a fresh new original track from the trio.

Drumcode got its first taste of Pleasurekraft’s unique production touch in 2016 when ‘Dopefield’ dropped on ‘A-Sides Vol.5’. The Swedish/American duo’s exploration of cosmic techno realms made them the ideal candidates to re-work ‘Space Date’. Their contribution is as visceral as they come; defined by a hypnotic vocal arrangement, a stirring call and response melody and propulsive galloping beats fashioned for peak-time moments. No surprise it was a highlight of Adam Beyer’s Ultra Resistance sets and gobsmacked Maceo Plex who requested a promo to play at Time Warp a week later.

Meanwhile Drumcode debutant John Monkman steps up with a very different, but not less deadly reinterpretation of ‘Space Date’. The Brit has impressed in recent times with strong releases on Ellum, Kompakt and his own Beesemyer imprint, and takes this form into DC207. His is a twisted intergalactic re-rub drenched in warped electro, blistering modular sounds and touches of IDM that manages the difficult task of taking the original to darker, more leftfield realms without ever losing its powerful dancefloor pulse.

Stiv Hey debuts on Berlin imprint Kuukou Records after a slew of well received releases on essential labels such as Trapez or Sci + Tec. Across the three tracks of “Waves Of Light”, the Italian producer takes on a big room sound with flair and gusto. 
On title track “Waves of Light”, an apprehensive lead looms at the forefront while a beautiful arpeggiator rises and withdraws in the background. The track carries us through emotional peaks but a lonely siren wails in the background, a stark reminder that it can all easily turn sideways. 
Belgian duo Filterheadz take on “Waves Of Light” and inject some dynamics into the track without losing its deep and menacing qualities. The breakdowns stay big and a good amount of rave stabs get thrown in for good measure. 
On closer “Atlantis”, Stiv Hey takes us on a trip under the influence of the raptures of the deep. It’s a techno narcosis that’s brought to the edge and explodes at just the right moment.
