My gorgeous baby is 21!
Unique, uncertain, gifted, emerging....
This is my attempt at celebrating the beauty and mystery they brought into my life!

The gift

The gift arrived
Early Saturday morning
A little late
Much anticipated 
Silent 

Tightly wrapped
In layer upon layer of beautiful paper
Each one illuminated so      delicately in the rarest of inks
Through them, breathed a small, iridescent light

It shone, ooh it shone

The years went by, Sometimes on a warm day, a corner of paper might peel away
But in the night it would fold      back around, protecting    the gift

Safe now, We placed it high up on the wall

Where It shone
Oo it shone, Calling us inside
We couldn’t open the gift
We couldn’t it
Couldn’t open the gift

Some winter nights, in pure frustration, I would shake it for clues
The muffled sound that came from inside though 
was chilling 
So I could only pray

In its own glow the gift grew
Outer layers were shed  
Finely inked petals discarded
Offerings
Messages from the inside

The gift grew itself
Layer upon layer    layers 
Each one more deftly painted, 
detail more fine, colours more radiant,
Reflecting, nothing 
Only absorbing the light

Then one day the gift became ready
For its own destinations
Addresses emerged inscribed on fresh paper   
Time to go now

Now on the wall  just a powerful glow from the shed paper petals
Postcards arrive
And bask in the light with those who remain here

Liz’s vocals speak of a spiritual strength and love despite all, Dan’s motivational bad language is equally loving and direct, whilst Dave Koor (Deoke) lends his analog synth lights to the streetwise mantra. Vince Vella doubles up on synth bass with a quiet all-knowing nod of approval in the background, yet not forgotten in the dark.
