for anyone who's a bit different, off-center.. or just plain strange it sometimes seems necessary to bend a bit so to integrate with the whole of society, or maybe even just the smallest slice of the societal pie chart.  and i don't mean completely selling ourselves out, but finding some grey area that compromises something that i, you, me, us, we like and appreciate for one reason or another that also has some kind of general appeal.. something that "normal" people might actually like to.  sometimes when we bend we can get sucked in a little further than intending to and might even start to wonder "what is it that i really like anyway"?  so whenever this occurs that probably means it's time to recollect who you really are and do something, watch something, listen to or create something that maybe only you would actually like

this track is none other than a blatant and honest expression of my true self.  not to say that everything about my being is conveyed through these sounds, or that this is in any way an intention to express all that i am.  this track does represent something that i like and have liked for a long time regardless of how appealing or favorable it has been to anyone or everyone else.. that being noise.  i didn't spend all night and day getting this to sound exactly how i wanted.. that wasn't the point.  i did experiment with these sound for a while, made an initial recording then added some pan and made a couple small touches.  just as for myself, i don't spend much time each day on perfecting myself whether that be aesthetically or regarding how i speak or even how fast i eat.. but i do pay some degree of attention to the overall presentation of whatever i am.  if i were trying to make a track to win a competition, i would have put a lot more time and thought into.. just like if i were to apply/interview for a job i'd prepare accordingly.  but this is me today.. well, a couple hours ago.  me right now is on this stream of though.. if you're still with me at this point, you must be quite strange as well.  hope you enjoy strange sounds too

i wanted to throw together something fast and absurd. turns out this track really sounds not much like either of these influences, although it was written at 234 bpm in 6/4 time signature. i might have slowed it down to around 222 bpm.. i'd have to check the project file. try to enjoy

long ago this began with the simple intention to make something a bit more conventional. then came the notion to sample this certain animated short that i find very special. then a long time passed an nothing happened. finally.. i extracted some samples from that short. then more time passed. then i started to get the samples into the track. then more time passed. then i eventually audio-mangled some of the samples. then a little more time passed. then i finally decided to get it complete. then i wasn't happy with it. then i realized i needed to just be done with it. then i made a few subtle changes. then i eventually called it done and put it up here. so long story.. well i guess it's long story long by now, anyway it's safe to say this project was always further off the track than on. but considering.. that might just make perfect sense.

this is decidedly the final project that i will create from iOS, at least for now. the hands-on streamlined workflow has allowed me to get ideas and experiments out of my head and into the ether instead of spending the hours checking what every button and setting in a DAW does. but now i am feeling more limited than enabled, and the methods i have been using to create and arrange sounds are far more arduous this way than they need be. while i will likely use iOS for audio production in some way in the future, i am shifting towards a new direction.

While i live in a different part of the world than Tom Jenkinson, i feel the concept behind MIDI Sans Frontières is equally relevant. It is important that we continue with the progressive movements that have began and existed over the past century. While there have been several leaps forward in a movement towards equality and understanding of one another despite our differences, it appears that there have been several steps taken in the reverse direction and this seems to be happening in places throughout the world. i am not geographically informed enough to comment on exactly what is going on or where, although i feel the current state of mind in the US is also becoming more xenophobic once again. i believe these circumstances have a more potent and detrimental effect than we may even realize, when this state of mind is perpetuated thought societies it effects the way people interact as individuals; this anxiety and hostility is often then directed at the people in the immediate environment. Friend and family connections can suffer as a by-product of political and societal scenarios and this can be quite detrimental. Through my interpretation of MIDI Sans Frontières i chose not to alter the composition itself, but to modify the sounds used and create a very different space through the sonic textures and fragments. It is a very “into the void” feeling and my hope is that it may take the listener into that sea of consciousness where those boundaries and borders don’t exist, that singular point of emotional awareness where there are no words or discrepancies. In this state there should be no fear of that which is different because to anyone that does experience this state (i believe that) it is essentially the same feeling, the same emotional experience that is something every human is capable of, and is a common thread between us all.

Lost My Kit simulates creating a basic drum pattern and then dropping it down a very, very long flight of stairs.

Farewell 606 has nothing to do with a drum machine or any specific piece of hardware for that matter. 606 was my address and I made the track on the very last day I lived there (excluding the day I actually moved). Written in 6/4 at 606 BPM for 606 bars to equal a 6:00.000 runtime, 6 different instrument groups (each containing at least two instruments) were recorded one at a time. After the first recording, the accumulation of recordings was played while recording the next.

All other tracks and titles are self-explanatory.
