In the fast-paced, ever-evolving world of music promotion and urban entertainment, few names resonate with grassroots authenticity and relentless hustle like Peter “Lungz P” Salick. Known throughout the greater Orlando area—and by many industry players nationwide—for his tireless work ethic, creative promotional strategies, and unwavering commitment to both music and culture, Lungz has carved out a distinct identity as a true hustler. His journey from Bushwick, Brooklyn to becoming a cornerstone of Florida’s urban music scene is a story of perseverance, loyalty, cultural pride, and sheer determination.

Roots in Culture and Sound

Peter Salick, known professionally as Lungz P, is the American-born child of a Trinidadian family, and his upbringing reflects a powerful blend of Caribbean and urban American influences. Raised in the culturally rich neighborhood of Bushwick, Brooklyn, Lungz was immersed in music from a young age. The soundtrack of his youth was as eclectic as it was rhythmic—calypso, steel pan, soca, and reggae provided the baseline for his early musical education. These genres, deeply rooted in Caribbean history and culture, instilled in him an appreciation for storytelling, rhythm, and community—a foundation that would later inform his approach to music promotion and marketing.

However, being born and raised in Brooklyn during the formative years of hip hop meant that Lungz was also on the frontlines of a cultural revolution. Hip hop was more than just music; it was a voice for the voiceless, a platform for the underserved, and a creative explosion of poetry, rhythm, and rebellion. The duality of his Caribbean heritage and his American urban environment shaped Lungz into a musical connoisseur with a deep appreciation for both roots and innovation.

Lungz credits a wide spectrum of artists for shaping his musical tastes. While he expresses reverence for all artists who emerged after 1982, there are a few that hold particular influence over his musical development—Boogie Down Productions, UTFO, Roxanne Shanté, Marley Marl, and the Cold Crush Crew are among those he acknowledges for laying the groundwork. Later, the gritty storytelling and lyrical prowess of artists like Jay-Z, Notorious B.I.G., Tupac Shakur, Big Pun, Nas, Wu-Tang Clan, Big L, and Black Moon continued to inspire and refine his musical compass.

Entering the Game

By 1995, Lungz had begun turning his passion into action. Starting with club promotions in the vibrant, hyper-competitive nightlife of New York City and its surrounding boroughs, he entered the industry from the ground up. Club promotions are where the music meets the people—where records are broken, and reputations are made. For a young hustler like Lungz, this was not only an entry point but a proving ground.

Despite the promising start, life took an unpredictable turn. As is often the case for those chasing dreams in a high-stakes industry, real-life responsibilities and circumstances pulled him away from his rising career in the New York scene. In 2004, Lungz made the life-changing decision to move from Brooklyn to Jacksonville, Florida. Though this move could have derailed his ambitions, it instead became the catalyst for a new chapter—one that would see Lungz become an even more significant force in Southern music promotion.

Jacksonville: The Rebirth

Once settled in Jacksonville, Lungz linked up with Derek “D-Wash” Washington, a well-connected figure in the Florida music circuit. This partnership gave Lungz the opportunity to work as the Street Team Manager for Def Jam Records and Upstart Entertainment. This role was crucial in shaping his strategic mindset and further developing his already strong networking abilities. Working at the grassroots level, he was able to observe, firsthand, how records are pushed, how fanbases are cultivated, and how perception is built in real time.
