One might argue that Ritalin serves a similar societal role to Soma in Huxley’s "Brave New World," offering chemical management of mood, behavior, and productivity, though it is self-administered rather than mandated by the state. However, Ritalin is a real stimulant with known physical and mental risks, while Soma is a literary creation imagined as uniformly pleasurable and socially pacifying—making their “purpose” comparable mainly in philosophical critique, not medical reality.
