Atlantic Grey Seals (Halichoerus grypus) at Donna Nook National Nature Reserve, Lincolnshire.

With hundreds of cows and pups only a few metres away from the coastal path it was possible to record at levels that helped reduce the roar of surf and unwanted noises from shipping. 

Recorded at 1am on the 7th December 2015 with a pair of MKH40’s arranged ORTF into a SD MixPre and 702.


Seal Sounds at Donna Nook

A binaural soundscape featuring several Swainson's Thrushes singing in Subalpine Fir near Baldy Mountain to the east of Oliver in the Okanagon Valley of British Columbia.  Recorded 7:20am, 28 June 2017.

This beautiful soundscape also includes the rush of a mountain brook (left channel)and the gentle gurgling of a nearby freshet (right channel). Listen also for what I believe to be six nasal calls from a young mule deer (fawn), sounding off in the distance at 6:50 as it moved through the forest.

On a recent trip to Ireland spent some time in Wicklow and explored Glendalough, a well known natural area close by. Although there was virtually no wind, it was raining a lot making recording conditions challenging. I arrived just as dawn was breaking and soon came across a robin singing high up in a tree.

Spruce Forest in April

Crispy morning dawn. Cuckoo and black grouse are in the beginning of their concert and at the same time Boreal owl is about to finish his nightly performance.

The track opens with a Wren in full voice, later a Robin makes some 'ticking' calls, nearby a stream can be heard quite clearly even though it was behind an earthen bank. Late summer day on the Cormorant Reef of Marjakari, Luvia, Western Finland. The  young birds have leaved their nests three weeks ago and are keeping flying exercises in the shallower waters of the shoreline.  The mosquitos are accompanying. 

A faint seven minutes with least motor boat rumble from the recording of nine hours.
