Several years in the making and including around 100 tracks, this is my personal tribute to De La Soul's '3 Feet High and Rising'. Using original sample sources, album tracks, interviews and rarities, 'How High's The Water Mama' tells the story of one of hip hop's most influential albums.

When De La Soul's debut album dropped in 1989 I was ten years old. Yet, by some stroke of good fortune a cassette copy of '3 Feet High and Rising' found its way into my hands thanks to my best mate's older brother. The music was a revelation and had a significant influence in shaping my musical tastes - in fact I can't think of any other album that has had such a profound effect on me as this one. Thus '3 Feet High and Rising' holds a special place in my musical affections. Now, some twenty-five years after its original release, it's time to pay my respect to Pos, Dove, Mase, and Prince Paul...

MPM welcomes Melodiesinfonie! "Be Thankful" is the second album by the Swiss producer and musician, who first stepped onto the scene via his EPs on Soulection. A son of a dedicated jazz fan, Melodiessinfonie grows up surrounded by his dad's audiophile record collection. He becomes a drummer and plays in a couple of experimental psych rock bands. 20 years later, he is one of todsays most promising and challenging producers. Jazz is definitley the teacher, when it comes to Melodiesinfonie's music and without Dilla he would sound different as well. Which can be said about many beatmakers but doesn't do justice to Melodiesinfonie. He is a free spirit who creates his music unaffected from the boundaries of musical genres and business policies. Musicality, vision and spirituality are the cornerstones on which "Be Thankful" is build. The album features musical friends like Marla, Miles Bonny, Djemeia, Anja Joie, Christian Crow, Nothoya and Wodoo Wolcan. It is also the first kollabo between MPM and Boyoom Connective, the artist collective founded by Meldiesinfonie and Maloon The Boom.

Melodiesinfonie - Fhli Scho So Feat. Wodoo Wolcan

First of the eclectic hardcore/jungle sample-spotter mix series.
It's a selection spanning multiple genres from the 60's to the 90's, the common thread being - as ever - that each track was sampled by the hardcore/rave/jungle/DnB scenes - some have just one signature sample, others have been rinsed. Some of these records are incredibly obscure, dug up with help from the RolldaBeats and WhoSampled camps - others are long-standing personal favourites of mine.
This time I've included a few cheeky set-pieces based around reconstructions of hardcore/jungle tracks, or at least paying tribute to them, so keep an eye out for D'Cruze's Bass Go Boom, 4 Hero's darkside classics Journey From The Light and The Element; a trio of Foul Play samples, a cut-up reconstruction of Leviticus' The Burial, a 115bpm tribute to DJ Hype's Tiger Style, and plenty more besides. I can assure you that no jungle records were harmed in the making of this mix, original sources only. And they are so good. As ever - hope you enjoy.
