Here it is! My set from the final Burner event of 2025 here in Calgary. This year end event that the local Burning Man Community in Calgary is called "Decomp" (Decompression). It's a great way to reflect on the year and to celebrate one last time with familiar faces within the Burner Community. I had the honours of setting the vibe for the night by playing right after the celebrated Effigy Burn.

What we’re gonna do right now is go back—way back—back into time…

It was 1997 and young Dadical was living in a flat near the beach in Australia. One day, a cool cat from New York enters the place and slips in a mixtape: "Traveling Through Sampleland" by DJ Shame. For the next 90 minutes, Mr. Rad’s mind was blown to bits as over 100 soul-funk gems filled that sunny room…all arranged and blended to perfection. Immediately, he set out on a mission: to find as many of those samples on vinyl, whether the hip-hop version or the original itself. Or both!

By 2005, many others were on board this mothership and the Ghettofunk vibe was blossoming. Serato came along, so now even more great tunes could be discovered and shared with those who like to shake their rump(as). It wasn’t long before Dave was pulled into the commercial arena, tempted by the idea of not just rocking parties, but also getting paid for it. Refusing to do radio mixes, he harnessed the power of DVS to infuse breakbeats, re-edits, and mashups to keep things rolling all night.

But when the real Super Dave passed on in 2019, the DJ stuntman did too. It was time to leave the professional world and go back to how it started. In a room all alone with the headphones on. Still two turntables, yet no microphone. And a sweet new mixer. Yes, the phoenix has risen...but with tons of grey feathers. He’s older, sharper, and chunkier than ever. Scratching, skating, and slashing pow until he dies.

People, get up and drive your funky soul. These are the sounds of some downright ridiculous, totally radical dad.
