In 2018 I set this text for SATB choir. Obliging groups of friends sight read  that setting in higher and lower versions,  and it was included in a Midnight Mass service. This 2021 setting has a completely different melody, the same for all three verses,  and simple keyboard or guitar accompaniment.

Tea Room Quintet

A tone poem written for the Radcliffe Orchestra, Oxford and performed by them in November 2014 at a concert to celebrate the tercentenary of John Radcliffe.  It tells the story of Nicholas Tingewick, physician to Edward I, depicting his early career in holy orders at Reculver, his summons to court, the King's illness and Tingewick's successful quest for a cure. The melodic material all derives from a dance and an Alleluia existing at the time of Tingewick. This is a synthesised recording.

Swn is a vocal ensemble piece designed for anybody or everybody (though a minimum of about five people is needed for the best result.) The score consists of the word SWN, which is the Welsh word for SOUND, presenting the whole word, parts of it, and parallel sounds (eg. different hisses for the s sound) and participants are required only to work through the score at their own pace, using high, low and medium pitches. The piece, which needs no rehearsal,  has been performed ,by ensembles of varying sizes, on many occasions, the first being at the Abingdon Festival in 2008 . This recording is a lockdown version using just one voice recorded 8 times, so the variety of vocal tone colour you would hear from a group of performers is missing.

Classic, folk and experimental amateur.
