A one-hour selection by @nicolas-jaar aired first on May 15th, 2021 as part of the Sonic Liberation Front on @radioalhara, an initiative for Palestine by a group of audio platforms and sound artists who came together to unify their sound for Palestine and protest against the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people.

"Hello,
 
Thank you for inviting me to be here today. 

These are difficult days and it is difficult to express the feelings that I have inside. 

We have seen the horrors of Israeli occupation. We have seen the hypocrisy of the European and American media. We have heard the silence of our peers. And we have felt the screams inside Al Aqsa, in Sheikh Jarrah, in Gaza, in Haifa, in Jaffa, in Lydda. But this is only news to those who don't know. 
In reality, this is nothing new. 

The past 2 weeks have been a microcosm for the past 20 years, the past 40 years years, the past 70 years. 

The Israeli government is a racist settler colonial project committed to the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people. The legacies of systemic violence, racism and dispossession shaped by colonialism must stop. 

Today this means standing up and signaling clearly our support, our solidarity and our love for Palestine. Complicity with Israeli war crimes is found in silence and we cannot tolerate silence. 

As I speak something else is happening in another part of the world that is also very close to my heart. Chileans are right now electing  155 citizens who will write a new constitution for the country. It will replace the constitution that has been in place since the years of the military dictatorship. This constitution will be the first anywhere in the world to be written by an equal number of men and women. The only reason this moment of hope is possible in Chile is because of the incredible social movements that rose up to tell truth to power, to tell the story of life in the face of death. 
The courage and determination of Chilean activists, writers, artists has been astounding. I am sure many of them are inspired and influenced by the courage of Palestinians living under occupation. 

These social movements are creating change, and the forces of Empire are having a difficult time trying to control this change. When we see Israel bombing the tower that houses AP and Al Jazeera in Gaza, we understand that this war is being waged on multiple fronts. Journalism is one of them. Art and music is also one. 

So thank you for this initiative Radio Alhara and Recordat. 

This mix is different from any mix I've ever played. 

I'm gonna play a mix I made for myself, never meant to be shared. It's the music I play to feel better, in some ways it's my own kind of therapy, it gives me hope that life can always shine in the dark."

James Holden & The Animal Spirits - Go Gladly Into The Earth

Limited edition of 500 vinyl LPs housed in hand-printed, laser-cut and sewed 1mm thick cardboard covers. All produced and assembled by hand in a pure DIY spirit, and for this reason: NO CLAIM will be accepted due to an "imperfect" cover.

"Separated from both its reputation and its sleeve art, the music of Muslimgauze explores the relationship of visual sensations - space, colour, depth, illusion - to the listening experience. The music on 'Maroon' is dub-like inspired techno music, laid back with voices appearing randomly in the mix. The thick drums and rich found sounds that densely populate the soundscapes on "Maroon" give materiality to the warm presence of the synth washes. The music is so layered and textured that it ceases to be aural and exists almost solely in the realm of sight and touch.
Devoid of reference to any external reality, Muslimgauze's Ambience gets remoulded by subjective experience and moved around in the memory. By shifting the quality of perception with the producer's sleight of hand, Bryn Jones (the Mancunian behind Muslimgauze) makes explicit the interiority of the senses. Thus, the fact that our inner life determines our relationship to the world outside becomes the music's unspoken subject.
Divorcing Muslimgauze's music from its image is like listening to Take That without seeing Robbie's pelvis or Mark's pouting. This is precisely why the music is so effective.
Relocating music's power within the listener instead of as an external force acting upon the listener forces reappraisal and reinterpretation. The muezzin's wailing call to prayer and the shrieks of women mourning the dead conjure up images of a fierce 'death-to-the-infidels' fervour in the Western imagination, and are recast as holy prayers for the ultimate, womb-like peace that most Ambient music aims to express. The usually easy exoticism of sampled tablas and ouds instead hint at the dread on the road to the water coloured bliss of run-of-the-mill Ambient and force the listener to internalise difference and confront the received images of Islam that Muslimgauze detour by such strong powers of suggestion."
