Originally written as an entry to Mapco's Summer Song 2023 contest.
It didn't win, but I liked it a lot, so I worked it up into a single for release.
This is the first song to be officially released by Hamilton County Line, releasing on 7/21/2023.

Upon hearing Katherine Neev's "Seawall", I instantly knew I wanted to cover it. When I watched a video of the play that had inspired it, it only made me more interested in the project.

This song is about those things in your life that you cannot change. Those times when something breaks in a way that simply can't be fixed. Great personal loss. The loss of a loved one. If I were to put a finger on it, we can simply call it separation anxiety.

I wrote this upon seeing the pain that my mother-in-law's loss of her pet dog caused her. That coupled with the horrors of Alzheimer's caused her to relive the loss, freshly. But, in truth, such loss is experienced a thousand times, even without Alzheimer's... in covers on a dog bed that are now empty, in one fewer dog bowl set out to be filled, in a fleeting sound that sounds might have been your beloved dog, but then you remember that time has past.

And, with my dog going into sudden congestive heart failure, now I'm feeling this song deeper. I think it's beautiful, but it's also very sad.

I loved Neev's Seawall so much that I did a cover before the remix contest ever existed. Here, I've merged Neev's original with my remix into an old-school Country Duet.

When Jimmy Buffett passed, it hit me pretty hard and led me to pen this song. Here, I've given it a tropical instrumentation treatment which feels befitting. Although I never made it to a Jimmy Buffett concert, I've always enjoyed his music and longed for the escapism he sings about. He's always been the first name that I would come up with when trying to describe the genre I was aiming for, which I call, "Island Country".

Fair weather and following seas, Jimmy. You will always be near to our ears, our hearts and our blenders.

I love technology. I'm a computer programmer. But, I grew up in the country... and when I write songs, they tend to come out as country songs. So, here I state my case. Yes, I'm a nerd... but maybe I'm country...
