Lumberjacks in Hell is a one-man mission founded in 2010 in Amsterdam by Marcel Vogel, as a family and platform for soulful artists around the globe. The seminal labels output is a testament to Marcel’s impeccable taste and golden eared A&R skill. No gimmicks required, just a passion for raw, warm, soulful shades of house and disco. LIH has proudly released killer cuts by the DJ’s DJ Rahaan, Red Greg, Jamie 3:26 & Cratebugs, the late Soulphiction, Dan Shake, Karizma, Giovanni Damico, Mendel, Rayko, Eddie C, and the don that is Al Kent.

For its next release, LIH takes a surprising turn with an eight track LP by Berliners Panna Cotta. This duo came together one summer evening on the legendary Berlin airfield of Tempelhof. Their debut album is the sonically sweet and heartfelt audio delight entitled ‘Sunrise’, produced, and curated with blissed-out, sun soaked, love filled days in mind.

Sitting somewhere between sultry disco and polished pop, French-born Alex Arslan, and Italian Riccardo Pirotto, take the listener on a journey to the blissful planet joy. All tracks are composed, mixed, and mastered on vintage analog gear, maintaining a feeling of past, and making for a sublime combination of warm keys and heart beating drums. The music is inspired by Panna Cotta’s soulful search for instant happiness and long-lasting love through poetry in musical moments.

Opener ‘Tasting Sugar’ takes us on a psychedelic cosmic journey, while ‘Sweet’ picks up the yacht rock pace a touch. ‘Childhood’ with its slo-mo vibrations, encourages the dancers to sway, while ‘Nobody’ surprises with its broken beat breakdown and impressive drum solo. ‘I Feel Love’ plays with analogue synths and steady drums, with flecks of acid beneath the uplifting vocal, all floating along on a killer groove. Track ‘ Sunrise’ allows the honeyed vocal harmonies to take centre stage amidst the blissed-out soundscape, with Marcel Vogel adding muscle and more acid twists with his interpretation, taking us on an even further exploration of Panna Cotta’s cosmic disco universe.

Panna Cotta have travelled space and time in search of these poetic moments. Enjoy the sweetness.

After Flori’s excellent ‘Within Reason’ EP secretsundaze release their second EP of the year with Galway based John Daly and ‘Everlasting’. John has been plying his trade for many years now releasing numerous quality tracks across labels such as Mule Music, International Feel, TAANSTAFL,and of course secretsundaze with ‘One More City’ last year. ‘Everlasting’ finds John in exceptional form. An epic 9 minute workout starts with fizzing hats and some magic keys before developing into a fluid, free flowing deep house/techno hybrid of the highest order. This is no peak time banger but a track for special moments. Coming at you a little bit like a jam between Larry Heard and Mathew Johnson we hope you like this as much as we do.

On the remix we have drafted in one of techno’s brightest hopes Marcelus form France. Best known for his work on Deeply Rooted, Tresor and his own Singular imprint he takes ‘Everlasting’ into wonderfully deep, bubbling and aquatic techno territory. Don’t be fooled though as Marcelus can’t quite hide his tougher techno roots as the kick drum suddenly doubles up giving the track a raw potency when you least expect it.

Another secretsundaze gem with John Daly and Marcelus proving to be a deadly pairing for those that like their techno music a little more cerebral.

A version for the great French label Black Jack in 2018 and which was supported by artists like Leftfield or Laurent Garnier to name a few and which was played all over the world.
