In his home country Poland, Pete Grace is already a well-known and respected DJ and producer. Over the last few years his releases on the Warsaw labels Spekulla Records, Taste The Music and Time2fly Records have also been played over and over beyond the borders of Poland naturally. The next logical step for Grace now, is to make his club sound with its distinctive East European touch available for the public at large – via Sonar Kollektiv.

This way he also benefits from Pete Josef's astonishing voice. Within the last two years the Bristolian singer and one half of The White Lamp has come to be something like the in-house voice of Sonar Kollektiv (f.e. to be heard on Alex Barck's album “Reunion”, on the album “Lux” by Paskal & Urban Absolutes and the last EP by Marlow, “Backroom”). You can hear how well the two Petes match from the very first verse: „Finally I can see your face, finally I can see you the way you taste“, sings Josef and a bassline kicks in as snappy and smart as a Polish hunting dog. But what starts like a proper House tune crumbles again and again into sentimental breaks to gain at the same time vast sex and pop appeal. Worth watching is the accompanying video clip, telling the story of a beauty, which you can only find in Poland.

To unlock the full potential of the track also in the club world, Mao and Rockford Inc. have been kindly asked to deliver remixes. After flying high with the remix of Alex Barck's “Doubter” the twosome Mao keeps the altitude high to drop another bomb, giving every dancefloor in this world the shivers with this impelling, sombre remix. Also not for the first time working for Sonar Kollektiv is Oliver Marquardt under his Rockford Inc. moniker. Which goal his revision of “The Way You Taste” is aiming for says the name itself „Sunday Brunch On A Dancefloor Rework“. And actually, these are the exact occasions in Marquardt's home town Berlin that cause quite often the most euphoria.

Last but not least you get the bonus track “Mleko” with this digital release. A bestial rave monster which, under certain circumstances, could even become one of the biggest smash hits in this year's Ibiza season.

The people of Hamburg are associated with traits such as modesty and coolness. The same can be said about the music scene of Germany‘s second largest city: While there is a lot of buzz in the media about cre- atives being envious to the capital, the music scene, especially in the electronic fields, has been thriving here in the last few years. Hafendisko, the Hamburg based new sub label by hfn music, reknowned for their re- leases by Trentemøller and Kasper Bjørke, now puts an end to Hanseatic understatement: “hamburg elektronisch” is a new compilation series of awesome electronic beats from the river Elbe, the first installment focu- ses solely on House music. The 20 tracks of this download-only com- pilation, among which are three exclusives, not only feature old masters like DJ Koze and Lawrence, promising newcomers like Smallpeople und Wareika, but also showcase the most important melting pots of the Hamburg scene.
The new drive of the city is mostly accumulated in two spots: Smallville Records, the first of them, proves that the classic record store still can be of relevance, no matter how much discourse about releases and pro- ducers is now going on in digital networks. The store is small, but run with knowledge and passion. The people there not only curate their own Smallville parties all around the city, but also run an offspring store in Paris and several great labels: “Smallville” (featured here with tracks by Law- rence and Smallpeople), the vinyl-only imprint „Laid“ and, of course, „Dial Records“,the most-famous electronic label in Hamburg, because of its unique melancholic approach to techno music (check out Isolée on this compilation). On top of that, people who help there at the counter also run their labels like RvdS (whose “it’s”-platform is represented here with „A Walk On The Moon“) or book great parties like the “Dear” nights at the “Ego” club - the second epicentre in Hamburg at the moment.
With the “Ego” in the outskirts of the world famous Reeperbahn the city finally has a great techno club again, in addition to the „Baalsaal“ and „Neidklub“. Its owner Solomun also runs the booking agency and label “Diynamic” in the same building. The label already released nearly 50 records in quite a short time and thus is featured heavily here. Apart from Solomun check out Stimming, DJ Phono and H.O.S.H. The latter is also responsible for the ever-growing “Grünanlagen” Open Air parties who usually have an awesome line-up, although they are free.
Apart from other important concert venues like the „Uebel &amp; Gefähr- lich“ and all the nice bars of St. Pauli between the Reeperbahn and the Schanze quarter, at the end of the night the Hamburg scene still meets at the Golden Pudel Club at the harbour. Despite some difficulties it is still going strong and uncommercial after more then twenty years. Not only most of the artists mentioned before run parties here, but lots of the other labels in this collection as well like Liebe*Detail (Wareika, Lo- vebirds), Dérive (Christopher Rau) or Mirau (Tensnake). At the Pudel so many different people and music scenes engage in creative friction. This multitude of styles will be covered in future parts of this “Hamburg elektronisch” series that will also be released on CD. Cause hanseatic understatement is over.

Russia's Saint Petersburg Disco Spin Club arises on the Teardrop label run by Lovebirds with "I Need It", a collaboration with Moscow's Lipelis which is undoubtedly one of the more anthemic slices through the space between disco and house to have emerged in recent times. While his name isn't easy to slip off the tongue, SPDSC has been steadily building up a classy rep amidst the disco house fraternity, with a notable inclusion on a recent Tusk Wax 12", but "I Need It" might be his best work yet. This is a track that has everything; thick groove, heavily filtered stabs arranged in a playful manner, a killer vocal hook that weaves in an out of focus and a pleasant deviation into twisting analogue acid. Lovebirds are on remix duties too, along with Iron Curtis under his Leaves alias.
