"This mix is a love letter to the emotion-driven, vulnerable, and melancholy side of my sound -- one I have not tapped into for quite some time-- in the form of weightless jungle and ambient. Through the process of creating this mix, I wished to reconnect with myself as an artist at this moment without the influence of a dance-floor, tuning into the self-reflective spirit of the winter."

The Bay Area dance music scene formed Eugenia's roots as a DJ, where she cut her teeth playing underground clubs and organizing DIY raves. Her energetic mixing style can be defined as bright, tender, and highly dynamic, jumping across many genres of dance music wrapped in a lush atmosphere -- always with her signature touch of sass. While Eugenia grew up between the Bay Area and northern Italy, she is currently based in Boston where she plays with local queer collective Enter the Boudoir. Fresh from her sets at HOR Berlin, Fast at Work in Los Angeles, Boiler Room in Boston, and Sound Gymnastics in Brooklyn, she continues to blossom further and curate her own sound. 

Outside of performing, Eugenia is a practicing poet and host of a genre-non conforming, ambient-inspired mix series called "The Shape of Memory," as a part of experimental label Ghunghru, where she asks each artist to express a memory through the arc of a mix. The spirit of this series is to re-imagine memory as a breathing, living being, one that influences our feelings and sense of self.

For the inaugural edition of the Nina Label Mix series, we invited @kia-sydney to kick it off with a mix of material from her labels @animalia-label and @cirruslabel. A purveyor of trippy, psychedelic sounds, the Naarm/Melbourne and Berlin-based selector recorded the mix live at Nina HQ while in NYC to play the Nowadays Nonstop party in May 2023.

The Nous'Klaer Audio affiliated Dutch & German DJ and producer Oceanic, known for his sets at his residency at the prestigious Amsterdam institution De School, steps up for the latest Phonica mix. Over the hour and a half Oceanic, real name Job Oberman, takes us on a journey of soundscapes, electronics, tech house, percussive rhythms and techno. This mix shows not only Job's musical range, having released Ambient live recordings on De School's De Nieuw label all the way to driven bassy techno on Rush Hour, but his undeniable skill behind the decks as well as his understanding of music and how various genres can be brought together harmoniously.

Hailing from Minneapolis. Jobot has been mixing records and promoting electro and related music since the early 2000s. He draws from a diverse sonic palette — elements of electro and techno, 303s and FM basslines, 4/4 chuggers and fragmented breakbeats — combined with a selector’s ear and, hopefully, a bit of a sense of humor.  italo b-side over some dub techno that’s 30 years newer — why not, if it works it works !!  A long time veteran of techno mecca Detroit’s annual festivities, favorite musical experiences as of late include Interdimensional Transmissions’ No Way Back, I-F’s perspective expanding Intergalactic FM Festival in The Hague NL, and Intellephunk and Enemy Records’ excellent hypnotic techno campout The Great Beyond in rural Minnesota.

Baltimore’s Kir (@itiskir) and recent Daisychainer (#292) guests on this month's installation of the Daisychain residency for Refuge Worldwide, playing some of their favorite minimal, electro, and shuffly cuts alongside original productions. It's a dream cloud floating through the textures both smooth and softly gritty. This special edition is the first of the residency performed live from Refuge Worldwide HQ at Oona Bar in Neukölln📡🌐🌼

A raver first and born by the California beachside, Kir began making music at a young age; first pop, and eventually, electronic, all inspired by the ocean. After relocating to Arizona for high school, where they witnessed their first desert raves and were introduced to genres like hardstyle and happy hardcore, their eyes turned to underground production styles and DJing. It wasn’t until they moved to Chicago to study music that they began collecting records and investing in gear, and it was truly post-pandemic that Kir had the opportunity to first share their original, tropical-inspired music with the world. Their hardware sets contain compositions performed live on two vintage Korg Electribes (MX), energetically mixing techno with their gritty, old-school, breaks-centric rave productions in a fashion similar to DJing. With a deep love for shuffled beats and syncopated rhythms, Kir’s DJ sets span a similar range, and explore the bounds of minimal, UKG, electro, breakbeat techno, and drum & bass.

System Error launches its brand-new sub-label VARIANT with a statement - not a whisper - and Koloah’s “Pacific Orbital EP” delivers exactly the kind of intent-defining sound you'd hope for on a debut catalogue number. Leading the charge is “Cosmin”, a track that instantly maps out the label’s direction: emotional futurism, razor-edged functionality, and electro charged with actual feeling rather than empty posture.

“Cosmin” opens with wide, misty pads that feel almost suspended in cold air, before subtly broken beats begin to form beneath. Then the acid arrives - not as a gimmick, but as a glowing thread that pierces the track’s melancholy, tugging it forward with a kind of soft inevitability. Everything here moves in fluid arcs: the pads sigh, the 303 flickers like underwater bioluminescence, and the groove shuffles rather than stomps. It’s melancholic, yes, but never defeated. Digital Haven reúne temas que se han producido en momentos muy diferentes, entre el 2015 y el 2024. Están en orden inverso: Cloud Strife es el más nuevo y Kupo el más antiguo. Los produje simplemente por el placer de producir, sin pensar en nada. Pero, precisamente, este placer y esta nada son la raíz del concepto de Digital Haven. Es la idea de un refugio, un “locus amoenus” formado de paz digital.

Esta idea puede, de hecho, extenderse a toda mi música, cuya escucha suele resultar reconfortante e introspectiva. El uso de sintetizadores analógicos y emulaciones fieles aporta calidez al sonido, mientras que los bajos ácidos, la percusión y los “breaks” nos recuerdan a sonidos clásicos de los noventa, con un enfoque actual. Digital Haven se mueve entre el acid techno y el house principalmente.
