As I experimented with how to make motors into a musical instrument, I found it compelling to think of them almost as living or partially living things. Since I was building the motor instrument based on how I moved or wanted to move to run it, this partially living thing felt more inherently like an extension of my body than most other instruments. I kept these two ideas in mind as I wrote the piece and as I continued to design the instrument.

the blue murmuring of a wispy cloud falls like dew
lofty words from the great dreamers of old
rustle in the treetops
and fall on my heart
with every leaf and every star.
Can you hear it?
How the sand is quivering
under the lonely, slow tread of night?
Solemnly and grandly 
a rich chant peals forth
from the gray, shrouded stone.
And you, my dear, my dear,
you are silent.
