This song started with the acoustic guitar part my friend, Jimmy wrote. He sent it over to me and I threw down all of my ideas basically the same day. Over the next few months, we would make revisions and try to work together on it over Discord because of Covid but then we finally got to a finishing point.

Overall, the song is about the fear of losing friends again. The fear of people growing to hate you over time and being left alone.

And so, we are always in a dither of doubt as to whether we are behaving the right way, doing the right thing, and so on and so forth,
and lack a certain kind of self-confidence.

And if you see you lack self-confidence, you will make mistakes through sheer fumbling.

If you do have self-confidence, you may carry-get away with doing entirely the wrong thing.

The thing that you have to understand is this...

You have to regard yourself as a cloud.

Because, you see, clouds never make mistakes.

Did you ever see a cloud that was mis-shapened?

Did you ever see a badly designed wave?

No, they always do the right thing.

Now, so, as a matter-of-fact, do we, because we are natural beings, just like clouds and waves, only we have complicated games which cause us to doubt ourselves.

But, if you will treat yourself for a while as a cloud... a wave... and realize that you can't make a mistake, whatever you do...

Because even if you do something that seems to be totally disastrous, it'll all come out in the wash somehow or other.

But this is the middle way of knowing it has nothing to with your decision to do this or not.

Whether you decide that you can't make a mistake, or whether you don't decide if it's true anyway: that you are like cloud and water.

I originally wrote and recorded the instrumental on Christmas morning (3am) and put in on Soundcloud. That same night, Logan Romberger, who then was basically a stranger to me, messaged me and said he had wrote lyrics to it. I was so shocked and flattered. We got together a few days later and recorded the vocals that are on the track. That was the first time we worked together and this song eventually led to me playing on and producing most of his first full-length record (out now on all streaming platforms). We've been good friends ever since.

Well now really when we go back into falling in love. And say, it's crazy. Falling. You see? We don't say "rising into love." There is in it the idea of the fall. And it goes back, as a matter of fact, to extremely fundamental things. That there is always a curious tie at some point between the fall and the creation. Taking this ghastly risk is the condition of there being life. You see, for all life is an act of faith an act of gamble. Two months ago exactly, Tyler William Birch lost his life in a car crash back in Ocean City at the age of 19. Tyler was a friend of mine from middle and high school. We weren’t the closest, but we were friends nevertheless. I wrote this song about/for him last night. I didn’t want to have a happy ending or some kind of resolution because that’s just not how it works in life. Once a life is taken, it’s gone in that very instant and that’s the scariest part. Hearing the news of his sudden and extremely unfortunate passing shook me to the core. I was terrified. People you know, you love, you care about, or anyone at all can be taken from you and from the world in an instant. That’s what i wrote this song about. How one moment, everything is perfectly fine with no worries, “I love you mom, don't wait too long”, then the very next moment, everything can change forever. Cherish and value your time spent with the people you meet and care about, even if they’re strangers. My thoughts, prayers, and LOVE go out to Tyler’s family and friends. He was a fantastic guy with a huge and kind heart. He will be missed dearly.
