UNREALITY

One of the last songs I wrote for the record, 6 weeks into my trip in the cabin in South America. I never like to get too specific when explaining track meanings because I like people to make their own interpretations of the music and I don’t want to blur that. But broadly speaking it’s about the relationship between love and sacrifice.

I’m a massive space nerd. I love everything to do with space, the universe, astrobiology and abiogenesis (the origins of life). Something I’ve always found fascinating is how unlikely it is that we are able to exist here at all. So many millions of things had to go right in order for us to be here.. so many tiny details all aligning so that we can live our day to day lives. One of those details is the earth’s atmosphere, the thin blue line, the only thing that separates us from infinite nothingness. I wanted to end the album on a high note, a reminder that it’s not all doom and gloom, that the fact that we’re here at all and able to listen to music is completely ridiculous. And also that this entire situation is incredible fragile and rare. We need to protect it.

This song is about forgiveness and taking responsibility for your actions and mistakes. It’s a very personal song and it’s kind of terrifying that it’s out in the world but I’m glad it is.

To The Bone

this was the first song I wrote after starting to play the hang pan, it was one of those songs that came out really quickly.. everything was just flowing out of me. I love it when writing is like that. This one means a lot to me. I hope you enjoy it.

Unreality

I wrote this song with Naala in London on a rainy day in January 2019. I worked on all the production when I was in Patagonia.. I was reflecting on all the places music had taken me and all the times I’d wanted to give up but hadn’t. This song is essentially about hope.
