Millerton Lake - Lifelong dream of having a little boat realized bcz of the stimulus check. It took months and was very difficult to actually get it on the water bcz of the pandemic. Lockdowns and Social Distancing has made this kind of recreation more desirable. Something to do to get outta the house and get a hit of fresh air. Ghosts of McKinley avenue

This is a vibe I've been working on for a couple of years now. Link Wray meets Vangelis. A mixture of Electronica with Rockabilly style guitar. Korg R3 synthesizer, Telecaster through Mesa Recto-Verb, Drums from Band-in-a-box and my vocals. Lyrics from Jack Scott's Rockabilly hit, The way I walk from 1958.  It is a kind of a mashup of my original music with established lyrics.   

Since I don't do live gigs any more, I work on "video songs" and try to present them in the video as close to live as possible. I work on just one song at a time, writing and recording parts as I refine it into a finished product. I film myself performing the various instruments as I record the parts on the digital multitrack recorder. Then I mix it all together and post the audio on Bandcamp and Soundcloud and the video on social media and my website www.stagedive-records.com. Hope springs eternal. Dale

Having collected punk zines and related such as rock zines, underground newspapers and comic books for 50 years I find them quite interesting and a fun way to reminisce about the records, bands, movers and shakers in the hipster scenes of the '60s - '80s.

For this project, I ventured into new territory, a different approach by crafting the drum parts first – a departure from my usual process. Then, I laid down the foundational chord progressions and song structure on the Mustang Bass Guitar. With this framework in place, I built the rest of the composition. The result? I'm absolutely thrilled with how it turned out! In fact, upcoming songs will follow this same creative method.

17,000 Miles an Hour

This song was originally recorded by Rufus Thomas in 1953 and covered by Elvis in 1968. This is the second song with my new gear: the Kaossilator Synthesizer/Drum Machine and Tannoy powered monitors... I've been doing a solo act now for a couple of years and the Kaossilator allows me to have a rhythm section backup for recordings and live. New gear - new direction. It really frees me from having to carry the beat on the rhythm guitar for every part of every song. It's way more fun and I get to focus on the emotional part of the performance and play some leads that I couldn't play without backup. I love this new setup and look forward to finishing this new album and more gigs in the future!

Can't get out so I do what I can: Make videos and upload them. Social distancing? I already do that. Being an outsider and 70 years old keeps me from playing live gigs. I admire the players that can get out there and get the gigs. At least I can continue to play and publish. Maybe a door will open where I can play some gigs like the ones I played at Bob's Record Store a few years ago. Maybe a front porch gig.
Here's an instrumental that started with digital drums, added some Bass Synth and Sound Effects from the Kaossilator Pro and then added some rhythm guitar to go with it. I ordered a heavy steel slide online and loved the way it sounded on the Hamer with the Humbucker on High Gain through the Mesa Boogie. It ended up sounding quite sad and bluesy so I named it Blues From a Virus.
