Sanctuary Invocation

Been working on this live set for Cacao ceremony.

I only managed to prepare for the first 22 minutes. Starting with ambient and then a percussive section with some polyrhythms before going electronic.  Everything after that is an improvised mixing of some old tracks, hence it went quite trancy ;  ) For future ceremonies i want to have more deep, tribal and shamanic dance material ready.  

Please excuse my fuck up when mixing in the Mongolian chants towards the end and also a few other bad ones that hopefully not too many people will notice.  

Thank you Shivani for this beautiful event.  Was a real pleasure and honor to be part of this ecstatic event of dance, yoga, meditation,  Cacao, pure love, light and connection.  Looking forward to attending and participating in more events in the future.  Thank you for your amazing work.

Thank you @kamilla-sol & @baptiste-sejourne for co-creating the atmospheric and celestial intro to this live set we recorded together, was a beautiful few days in Atitlan and am happy to share some memories from that time.  We never finished the track but i used it for the intro.  Cellos and voices separated and mixed in live.  Also thank you for the track, "Vi Kom", that you invited me to remix, very grateful and happy to be part of this beautiful project.  People absolutely loved this track, and so do i.  Thank you. Taken from Thomas William Hill's upcoming album 'Grains of Space'

The album started life as a series of minimal loops, recorded using a viola da gamba – a stringed instrument most popular in the Renaissance and Baroque eras – and a loop pedal. Using the negative space within each loop as the primary drive for composing, Thomas began a process of ‘joining the dots'.

“I began to see these loops - and recorded music in general - as a kind of fixed perspective that could be exploited. In isolation, a single layer may be no more than one or two notes punctuating four bars of silence, but when laid over multiple variations on that theme, disparate notes start to dance with each other and new connections take form, like constellations or deconstructed sentences.”

Thomas William Hill - Furnace

This recording was made in the Vigeland Mausoleum in Oslo, a place known for its incredible acoustics. Here I'm playing the Kamancheh, one of the predecessors of the violin, an ancient bowed string instrument from Persia. I feel that the discovery of that instrument brought me a bit closer to some of the more subtle frequencies I’m reaching for in music. 

While I was playing there was a strong rain shower coming down on the roof of the Mausoleum, and at first I thought that would make the recording useless, but it turned out that the soft rushing of the rain in the background actually added a beautiful high frequency continuo to the music.
