Something I've been working on for some time, today marks 2 years since I lost someone more dear to my heart than I ever even knew was possible. A kind, beautiful, genuine & radiant soul I held only love & admiration for that I will carry on for the rest of my days. This is a very rough and raw version of a song that's gone through many transformations following suit with my ever changing & challenging grief. 

On a random night like many others, when the pain was all but too much, I decided to pick up the guitar again.  When I began to hear the emotion break through this song began to form.  But something was lacking in those early versions none of which ended up here.  Overly complicated, soaked in emptiness & anguish it wasn't the story of her I wanted to tell.  It took a long time to come to a place to see what was missing, and it so clearly to me now was the celebration of her spirit.  The warmth, the quiet calm, the love I felt being a part of her life, the way she shined a light on parts of myself I could never see.  That's what needed to come out.  Put into something the good parts of how she made you feel, along with all the heartache. And right away, almost all too naturally it came. This song is a mix of all the love I felt for her and still the pain that loss puts upon me to this day.  Its a rough version but I found truth in the simplicity of every note. 

So here's a one take, mic in my room w an acoustic version of Traci's Song. I also have to say I really wanted it to sound like a sad/happy, slow motion Wes Anderson celebration of life, love, & loss kind of moment, cause he was one of our favorites & I like to think that she would approve. Eventually a full studio version will come but for now, today, here's the rough cut.
