Explicit Licks are about as in-your-face as rock ‘n’ roll gets. Taking cues from the likes of Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Wolfmother and the Hives, their blend of smooth blues licks and angry garage rock take you on a hazy trip from the early days of hard rock in the 60s and 70s, straight to the garage rock revival of the 2000s and beyond. This is the kind of rock ‘n’ roll that never gets old, complete with fuzz-drenched guitar riffs and loud, abrasive vocals.

Explicit Licks are a four-piece from Trondheim, who according to their own bio are “the band who kicks you in the sack and gives you a warm hug, gets you rocking and puts a big smile on your face”. The band was formed in 2004, and consists of brothers Andreas and Marius Aasarød on guitar/vocals and drums, Håkon Sundseth on guitar and Christian Bjørkhaug on bass. In 2010, they won third place in the World Final of Global Battle of the Bands in London, and self-released their first EP. In 2011 HEF Records reissued their first EP for wordwide digital distribution. The band has just recorded a new single, which will also be released on HEF Records.

Arriving in 1975 on own label Hearthan, Pere Ubu’s debut seminal single was initially written during the short-lived early days of Rocket From The Tombs. When the group disbanded David Thomas was eager to release ‘Final Solution’ and ’30 Seconds Over Tokyo’.

Taking its name from a Ted Lawson and Robert Considine book about the 1942 Doolittle Raid the song is about a World War II bomber squad’s “suicide ride”. “30 Seconds Over Tokyo” is “seven minutes of apocalyptic synth storms, metallic guitars and unnerving vocals” Tom Pinnock - Uncut Dec 2015.
Written during a rehearsal, ‘Heart Of Darkness’ resulted in ‘Final Solution’ getting axed from the B-side.

Limited to 1000 copies this special release for Record Store Day 2016, these tracks are as vital today as they were forty years ago.
