The Robot Scientists are Markus Schneider and Stefan Maurer, two DJs and vinyl collectors from Saarland, Germany. They co-run Emerald & Doreen Records since 2011 with releases on the edges of nu-disco, dark disco and indie dance. Ich drehe das alte Radio auf volle Lautstärke und mein Fuß beginnt zu wippen. Plötzlich stellt sich das vertraute Gefühl ein. Glückshormone strömen durch meinen Körper und mein Magen kribbelt. Meine Gliedmaßen brechen aus ihrem dumpfen, vom Gehirn gesteuerten Schattendasein aus und gewinnen nach und nach ihre Selbstständigkeit zurück. Das Wippen des Fußes wird zu den ersten zaghaften Tanzschritten und mein schambesetzter Widerstand schwindet. Wenige Sekunden später sind meine Bewegungen bereits fließend und folgen einer erdachten Choreographie. Mein spontaner Stimmungsausbruch gepaart mit der lauten Musik zieht schnell die Aufmerksamkeit auf sich. Die ersten Leute bleiben stehen und schauen interessiert zu. Bald habe ich erste Mitstreiter auf der großen Wiese, die uns als Tanzfläche dient. Die Musik lockt immer mehr Passanten in den Park und nach und nach füllt sich die Wiese. In mir wächst das Gefühl, dass ich all diese Menschen mit meiner Freude angezogen habe und sie diese nun teilen.

Markus Schneider and Stefan Maurer, known as The Robot Scientists, are two music connoisseurs, DJs, and vinyl collectors hailing from Saarbrücken, Germany.

They are also two of the three founders of Emerald & Doreen Records, established in 2011, which specializes in releases on the fringes of italo and nu-disco.

As DJs, they emphasize italo and arpeggio basslines, believing that more is better. They creatively explore themes like robots, consciousness, psychedelics, superpowers, aliens, space travel, creativity, futurism, fun, and freedom. Their sound journeys into both utopian and occasionally dystopian realms, though they usually keep things light-hearted, reflecting their fun-loving nature.

Las but not least, they also run SOMETHING SPÆCIAL since 2013, one of the genre leading mix series on Soundcloud.

This time with label boss Jason Peters of Roam Recordings from San Francisco, USA.

BIO
Jason Peters is a DJ/Producer and the label boss of Roam Recordings. Over the last decade he and his label’s output have been at the forefront of the indie dance/dark disco movement. While his music centers around 80s italo, 90s rave, and contemporary indie dance and dark disco, you will also hear rare disco, psychedelic techno, and early house.

Jason Peters is also a long time staple of the San Francisco dance music community where he plays regularly for some of SF’s more discerning clubs and promoters such as Sunset Sound System, Monarch, The Great Northern, and F8. On Jason Peters’ travels outside of the Bay Area he has played events such as SundaySunday, CRSSD festival, Block 9 at Glastonbury, Red Light Radio, Kater Blau, and the Alfresco festival.

Ransom Note puts it best: “Just like Jason's own productions, which also appear on the label, the music is dark and hypnotic, cosmic and driving - sounds that'll take you down a wormhole. There are a lot of labels and artists treading similar terrain these days, but Jason was spearheading this new wave of exciting and unique dance music a long time ago."

drS is a Tampere-based producer and DJ from collectives such as SWÄG and Aamu UG. One can easily recognize his distinctive blend of melodic and psychedelic house and techno. While keeping things down-to-earth and groovy, he sets emphasis on musical diversity: organic rhythms, trippy frequencies, and storytelling through sound. His own productions, released on several international labels, revolt around atmospheric and mystical vibes.

…and everything else came happily ever after.

Hello friends, I'm very happy to present you a new episode of my Indie Dance The Mix series today.
This time with IDORU, a Detroit-born, Miami-based musician and label head and co-founder of the electronic music label Manta Recordings.

BIO
IDORU is the anti-idol in an age of cult-like self-adoration. Her rebellious sonic signature and personal philosophy embrace the cyborgiﬁcation of humanity, where human creativity and AI intertwine, forging a sound that’s both otherworldly and deeply real. She channels the chaos of our hyper-connected world into dark, groove-driven soundscapes—a spellbinding blend of Detroit minimal techno, futuristic industrial textures, electro beats, and Italo melancholy.

IDORU went from childhood piano lessons, to teenage bandcamp playing the jazzy trombone, to digging for hip hop, funk, 80’s electronic and metal records in each city she resided. Now, she is co-founder and at the helm of Manta Recordings, alongside label partner, SIAN. She has consistently released dance hits in her genre, proven successful with fellow DJ supporters, garnering top positions in several dance charts.
 
IDORU has appeared as a special guest artist on Diplo’s Revolution on Sirius XM radio, while also contributing DJ mixes to well-known radio shows amongst her peers. She has also enjoyed the honor of being remixed by artists she deeply admires, including a talented lineup of revered names: Sherø, Boys’ Shorts, Panther Modern, Skelesys, Mala Ika, BadWolf, Jennifer Touch, Damon Jee, Musumeci, Fabrizio Mammarella, Zombies in Miami, Local Suicide, and ID ID.

Other noteworthy artists who appear on her label are David Carretta, Joyce Muniz, and Waltervelt, SIIE and Silicodisco. Additionally, IDORU has released music on Polaris label, led by the esteemed Darlyn Vlys.

Superhappy to have mixtape master and space commander Stu Mills aka themills23 on the show! Millsy is a self-confessed musical hobbyist whose sonic roots lie in the halcyon progressive house era and his monthly pilgrimage to John Digweed’s hallowed Bedrock nights in London.
Over time, his musical interests and BPMs have shifted towards the downtempo indie house style, drawing inspiration from Andrew Weatherall, Sean Johnston and a cast of excellent DJs who have paved the way before him.
Millsy is often recognised for creating sets that blend lesser-known tracks with unique melodies and recognisable remixes. He’s kept things close to his progressive roots here, with a mix that offers listeners what he considers a few classics of the indie genre, alongside more up-tempo tracks to get the feet moving (but never quite breaking that magical 118 BPM limit).
