Calling Michael Mayer one of the most important people currently active in the electronic music industry would be far from a stretch. He's the co-founder of Kompakt, one of the biggest record labels and distribution agencies in the world (being home to over 50 independent record labels). Besides that, he's a very busy DJ and also a more than prolific producer, whose total number of remixes has surpassed the 140 mark already for instance.

To be able to be active and competent in so many fields, he maintains a tight and very regular schedule. We spoke to him about that, Amsterdam Dance Event and his family life and you can read all about that in the latest issue of DJ Mag NL. SEKOIA Podcast #027 - Michael Mayer

Our special guest this week on the Cadenza Music Source to Cycle is James What.

The British DJ and producer has been making his mark since the mid 2000s, often producing with friends and kindred spirits such as the Italoboyz, and regular production partner Dan Berkson.  Releases for labels like Poker Flat, Dessous, Crosstown Rebels and Dogmatik Records have helped push the sound of the London based artist and enabled a busy DJ schedule around the world.  Alongside Dan Berkson, James launched the Modelmaker label last year, and the pair have just releases a new album called “Keep Up Appearances”, with a remix album scheduled for next month.

I don’t know about you but the past 2 months have been the longest year of my life. The days melting into one another made me rethink the whole concept of time. In Montreal, everything happened in those 2 months where we think we’re getting out of the winter but it’s all a big lie. Living in the present moment is a great exercise, but it often comes with things to look forward to.
The only thing I’ve looked forward to lately is good news. We’ve been hurt bad over here and we’re not out of the woods yet. But the weather is getting nicer, we’re finally allowed to see each other again (slowly). Good music, just like hope, is there for whoever seeks it. 

Show #90. Lots of cool break/broken beats and jazzy deep house flavours this month. I decided to showcase 3 artists that each have 2 tracks in the show : Simbad (SMBD), Hiatt DB and Nuff Pedals.
Also, killer new music from the Sonar Kollektiv clan, AtJazz Records Company, Waajeed’s Remix of Thatmanmonkz, Prins Thomas remixing Detroit Swindle, newcomer Clive from Accounts as well as Jimpster’s beautiful still unreleased remix of Jonatan Backelie.
