With my Rhythm Control mix I wanted to explore a slightly different sound than what people know me for in clubs, and create something that sounds timeless. I've drawn inspiration from different places in time and different styles, and I saw this as a way for me to collect into one place all of those more eclectic influences that continue to inspire me. Most of all this is a mix of slow jams and indie rock to bring some heat in on those cold cold winter nights.

"I’ve always been sensitive to my surroundings and the world is in a very vulnerable place at the moment. I felt I needed to express my true emotions through something a little bit different to a conventional DJ mix and also that just writing one song was not going to be enough.

It was almost like composing a score, the only difference being that the pictures were only in my head. My ambition was for the music to evoke a visual response in the listener rather than just an emotional one. To do that I took some audio snippets of real life current affairs scenarios that really struck a chord in me and then used my DJ instinct to think of a track/musical piece that would fit well to that particular scene. Sometimes when I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted I added my own music over existing music or did my own sound design to create my own sound effects and also wrote some original pieces in the moment. It was very important to me to create ultimate flow and I felt this could only have been achieved without having any beats supporting the music. I also didn't want to make it eclectic nor constant as I felt that would disrupt the listener’s focus emotionally. There is a strong dynamic range throughout similar to classical music and also some parts that are almost meditative and then in contrast some more intense moments.

Throwback to a very special moment in my career. In the end of 2009, after two of the most (musically) disoriented, almost desperate times in my whole 30 years of DJing and 18 years of producing music, after some years of domination of what was called minimal at that time, I had expected a change to happen much earlier, but then the expected renaissance of classic and deep House with a strong injection of R&B was swapping as a new wave from North America to Europe finally, with a bunch of new fresh artist, producers and labels. The music slowed down for a moment and suddenly it was possible to play peak time sets in clubs below 118pm bpm. In this moment when I already strongly felt that I wanted to reinvent my sound based on a reversion to my roots in Afro-American dance music of all sorts, I got a call from Fabric club/label in London, asking if I would manage to deliver a mix for their prestigious DJ mix series within only two weeks. I immediately said yes, although I knew it would be a sleepless two weeks because it was such a great chance to make a statement regarding that reinvention. Fabric 51 is still the best mix I ever delivered for something like such a commercial product or a podcast and I don't know if i will ever be able to beat the perfection and and shimmering glory of it.
