In Buddhism, SAMSARA is often defined as the endless cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. Or, you may understand it as the world of suffering and dissatisfaction, the opposite of nirvana, which is the condition of being free from suffering and the cycle of rebirth. 

In literal terms, the Sanskrit word SAMSARA means "flowing on" or "passing through." It is illustrated by the Wheel of Life. It might be understood as the state of being bound by greed, hate, and ignorance, or as a veil of illusion that hides true reality. In traditional Buddhist philosophy, we are trapped in samsara through one life after another until we find awakening through enlightenment.
However, the best definition of SAMSARA, and one with more modern applicability may be from the Theravada monk and teacher Thanissaro Bhikkhu:
 "Instead of a place, it's a process: the tendency to keep creating worlds and then moving into them." And note that this creating and moving in doesn't just happen once, at birth. We're doing it all the time."

Sol Selectas welcomes back Ayala (IT) to the label with a single featuring Kenyan singer Nes Mburu titled “Njambi”. The release also features 2 remixes by Djeff and Jaykill. 

The original is pure deep afro house with the beautiful voice of Nes Mburu telling a love story of playful  flirtation between himself and a woman he admires, all sung in his native Swahili language. 

On the Alt Mix, Ayala strips back some of the electronics arps, adding a guitar groove and some ethereal synths, letting the vocals shine once again. 

Djeff is an Afro House legend from Portugal / Angola, and his take really brings in the contemporary sound of modern Afro Tech, with a peak time groove, darker electronic stabs, and an epic build up. 

French producer Jaykill delivers a fourth version, complete with piano chord progressions, and solid afro drums,  perfect for those sunset moments of bliss. 

The artwork by Helia Jamali portrays the romance deep in the jungles of Africa.

Sol Selectas welcomes back our Spanish friend Yamil for his first solo EP on the label, with 3 original tracks, and 3 stellar remixes.  Each song is a fusion of indigenous sounds with modern electronic beats, and we hear inspirations from Latin, Arabic, and Indian folkloric music.

The title track “La Flor Colorada” is a collaboration with Clemente, and features the vocals of legendary Panamanian folk singer Rosalinda de La Espada. The song fuses the the powerful vocals of Rosalinda with a bass heavy Afro groove, and twisted metallic percussion patterns. 

“Naidi” combines analog sequences with Indian vocals, creating a beautiful but edgy deep house tune, filled with emotion.  On the remix we welcome Portugal’s Xinobi to the label, and his interpretation strips back the vocal elements, while chopping up the original analog synth noises to create a strong tension-building track, which blurs the line between Indie Dance and Afro Tech. 

“Sanctuary” is smooth downtempo tune with a  Moroccan “Gnawa” influence accompanied by flutes and tribal percussions. On the remixes we welcome Angelos from Greece, who turns up the heat on “Sanctuary”,  and crafts a perfect Afro tribal remix of the original. Derun from Turkey also remix “Sanctuary”,  incorporating their signature percussive drums, and adding a beautiful breakdown which blasts off into psychedelic arpeggios and chants. 

The artwork by Helia Jamali takes us to a playful garden of red flowers and dreams.

The mysterious Leipzig based duo JAJA released one of favourite albums of 2016 (Tropical Bird Club) on ynfnd (you need friends not discs) and we have been waiting to release something from them on Shika Shika ever since! 

For this Botanas, JAJA serve us up two humid, organic tracks seeped in dark green vegetation and marked by screeching birds from the canopy and mysterious voices from the forest floor. One for the deep groove.

Mente Orgánica feat. Lapola Kalu - La Llanura (SidiRum Remix)

Binder has has been producing music for quite some time, but it took facing a life threatening health challenge recently for him to find his voice and where he feels at home musically.

Obrigado EP is the first release in a series of works where Binder is creating music with the feeling of being thankful for breath of life.
Obrigado means, Thank you in Portuguese.

For the EP I am grateful to have worked with three extraordinary artists, who’s musical gifts truly emit medicine to those that hear their gift.     

Nina -  Who I collaborated on the title track of the EP, Obrigado, I came across her work on SoundCloud and was blown away by her voice, her music truly is medicine.
