"You've gaht to unn'rstaind the baysix of fluid dynaaamics." (apologies to The Road Warrior)  

It is Monday again (there seems to be one EVERY week!) and that means a track dredged up from the climate controlled storage room where the tracks that were originally posted on Facebook (January 2023 to May 2024), has gone through the Rethink, Remake, Remix process in order to make it compliant with the new standards placed on all Interbay tracks that are shared here on SoundCloud.  

Getting the RRR treatment today is Experiment 12, which you can see (because all of the Facebook-posted Interbay tracks had full videos made for them) and hear the original version on Facebook, if you're curious.  

The original was a moody sound design-forward instrumental.  Used to do that a lot in Interbay's Facebook-era--but one of my rules for SoundCloud tracks is "all tracks MUST have a vocal element" (i.e., no instrumentals.)  

This became the most difficult obstacle for pushing this track through the RRR process.  The whole point of the original was that it was a vibey, formless blob, of noises designed to make you feel a bit "off."  You can't just add spooky singing over it--that's a bit too on the nose.  You also can't just throw some unrelated singing on it, you'll end up ruining whatever was good about the track to begin with...  AND, you have to be careful with just dropping any spoken word on it, because one of the other guidelines for SoundCloud posted Interbay tracks was to focus more on soundcraft and structure.

I think I found a way to thread the needle.  I don't know why the sounds of Experiment 12 makes me think of fluid dynamics--but it does.  It did even when it was posted, as the video (which is mostly filled with early NASA outtakes, has a slow motion wave tank moving back and forth--so, it was on my mind at that point.)  

I won't pretend to know anything about computational fluid dynamics, nor should you have to in order to enjoy this track...but, I found that these glossary definitions act a bit, at least in my mind, like a laminar flow.  (Which is a term I just learned!  Interbay IS Educational!)  And the repeated (but always different) pronouncements of "Fluid Dynamics" is basically my tip of the hat to Magnus Pyke's "Science!" interjections in Thomas Dolby's most popular track.  

The track is long.  A low bpm and trying to create a very moody vibe do not combine to produce a 2 minutes 50 pop song.  So, settle in...if it is autum where you are, pull a cozy blanket around you...and I would recommend headphones, if you have them.  It's a vibe thing.  

(I guess I could have just said that and skipped all the rest.  See, self-editing IS my nemesis!)
