Aren’t you? Hmmm. The slightly nefarious rumble of the opening bass line may suggest that this is a paradox…maybe. There is a cynical, if slightly defensive suggestion at a quiet suburban existence peppered with dark thoughts; textured synths keep the listener guessing if it will all be ok whilst bleak guitars herald a stark picture of loneliness…and is that manic laughter in the background? Of course everything will be alright, we are English after all.

This anthemic ballad brings quiet reflection and a heartfelt expression of gratitude to the ones we love, who love us right back. Uplifting guitar riffs and quietly euphonic harmonies bring the chorus to a heartwarming summit as the descent into unhurried verses humbly acknowledge our meagre humanity when things are tough; love is truth and suddenly the world is a better place, even if just for a moment.

Pack your bags, because this trip starts with a journey out of dullsville as intrepid guitar fuzzes into life with an uncompromising instruction not to take oneself too seriously - most of the time - and a hint that maybe you’re the only person that you have to prove yourself to; but enjoy yourself whist you’re at it, life is short. Traditional pop vocals grow up in layered complexity to provide a balanced sophistication as they smugly make fun of the status quo, and complex percussion keeps the track trucking through right up until the last moment, peaking in combination with an impressive escalating guitar riff, as a softly cynical lyrics talk out the last few bars with a hypothetical wink.

Takes us on a laser-focussed do-or-die plunge into the world of brazen attraction, a place where wallflowers and shrinking violets need not apply. The starry-eyed choruses claw back some innocence to this visceral plight, bathed in ethereal harmonies that somehow throw a light onto the purity of the intentions so brashly laid out in each verse. A breathy spoken bridge delivers at its crest self assurance and measured urgency, to leave the listener in no doubt that the protagonist secured the ultimate prize.

Your Oxygen

Warped synths, eerie vocals and bleakly distorted guitar set the scene for the soundtrack of a dystopian world where the lines have been blurred between sci-fi and reality. Electronic riffs dance around resonant industrial guitar, descending with a groan towards a glitched vocal automation brimming with apocalyptic undertones. Signature lux harmonies and snappy percussion ensure a smooth ride, even if it is straight into the eye of destruction.

Ellis writes: Inspired by an episode of Black Mirror, I wanted to lyrically play with a world where our fascination with consumerism becomes so extreme that it comes at any cost; there’s some very unsubtle truths about lives lived without corporal human contact, and a planet being poisoned and destroyed, one eco system at a time.

Damn Good Liars is the result of guitarist and co-producer Steve Jenner’s enduring ambition, his long-standing friendship with producer and multi-instrumentalist Ian Turner, who combined their respective craft of synth mastery and guitar ingenuity to create a flawless foundation for the sullen and silky vocals of lyricist and vocalist Ellis Turner, who teamed up with the duo after an industry nod to find some vocals and move the project into band status. Their first single, Station Wagon Motel Chic, was released in May and the EP in June 2021; the music and lyrics for which were recorded strategically amidst the height of Covid-19 restrictions, with Ian and Steve recording at Pearces Farms Studios in Berkshire and Ellis at her home in Somerset.
