London-based artist, James Shinra is in charge of February's edition of The MUSAR Show, delivering a tight 60min mix of resonating electro, techno dreamscapes, acid-laced braindance and hard-hitting basslines, all served harmonically and fully charged with emotive melodies and textures.

#114 brings the talented Italian duo, Primal Code (@primalcodemusic), to the animix series, an act who have become known for their distinctively soulful & hypnotic interpretation of atmospheric techno.

Their recent release on @kalaharioystercult was one of my favourites of last year, a unique & modern fuse of dub techno, acid & modular sounds, resulting in a magically squelchy, deep, subterranean body of work. Before that, releases on the prolific @hypnus & @konstrukt cemented their style. This mix is a lovely continuation of that.

Animix One Hundred & Twenty Four: Primal Code

Esa is a producer, musician and DJ who has never been one to sit still. He is always working on something exciting and seems to draw strength from collaboration and the creativity of others as much as he does himself. Over the years he has released music on the likes of Highlife, Local Talk, Dekmantel, Bronswood, Endless Flight and many more – his sound evolving based upon his external influences and discoveries of late.

Based in London, he is incredibly well travelled and has worked alongside a number of musicians and bands, seeking to broaden his musical horizons and draw upon the roots of the sound and cultures which have informed his tastes.

As a DJ Esa is well versed, honing his craft on dancefloors in Glasgow where he held his first residency at the infamous Subculture. It is here that this mixtape was recorded, his return to the party earlier this year was a triumphant tour de force showcasing just how far Esa has come as an artist.

This mixtape spans a wide variety of styles and sounds but most importantly is destined to keep you moving and dancing throughout. Sometimes live sets don’t make much sense out of context, yet in this case there is something special captured in the sound which makes you feel like you are right down the front banging that old Sub Club booth.

This episode has forthcoming material from Chicago Skyway on Machining Dreams, with what sounds like a modern day update of Mike Dunn's classic 'Magic Feet'.
  Some excellent downtempo boogie style cuts from S.D.C, Moon B and Ruff Draft's Louis Guilliaume in the first part to ease you in nice and gently. New material from Contrast Wax and Laak and Steevio on U.M.H.S with the added bonus of the Joey Anderson remix too. A real treat is also included, the forthcoming ep from Jeremiah R a track from that on Tabernacle, Ace!
