DJ and producer, and stalwart of the Italian dance music scene Dino Lenny readies a superb selection of remixes of his latest single ‘Between My Eyes And Your Lips’ on his consistently solid Fine Human Records imprint. Bringing remixes from Fred Lenix, Citizen Kain, Blami and a collaborative rework of ‘Talk To Me’ by Damon Jee and Dino himself.

Brazilian producer Fred Lenix delivers the first mix, with a tripped-out hypno beast that brings throbbing subs and resampled slivers of Dino’s enchanting original. Delicacy and nuance are what make this remix stand out, Lenix layering in vacant layers of haunting tones and samples that bind to the undulating rhythms and allow for the vocal to really flourish. Bruno Demougeot, aka Citizen Kain blends retro TR-707 drum grooves with a sleek palate of drawn-out synth pads and modulating sonics. Crafting a synergy between new and old through a truly captivating piece of work. Psychedelic moments appear at random with heavily laden effects strewn across the crystal-clear vocals.

Blami brings swelling bass tones throughout his remix of ‘Between My Eyes And Your Lips’, morphing and oozing across a metric 4x4 drum groove. Soothing pads contrast the modulating FM bass with other-worldly synth lines wandering across the top and binding between the vocals. Finally ‘Talk To Me’ receives a stellar remix from Dino himself and Damon Jee, where cavernous reverberating drum fills drift across an arpeggiated bassline and a bed of powerful drum grooves, closing out the remix EP with a vocoder laden piece of anthemic dance wonder!

AEON is a label that’s really in a rich vein of form. Following on from the success of Jenia Tarsol’s recent ‘Strom’ EP, which found it’s way into a myriad of tastemakers boxes, they welcome French man of the moment, Darlyn Vlys for a stunning EP.
The title track Traca y Pólvora is a powerful, melodic masterpiece. A driving, dynamic groove underpins an irresistible bass line anointed with, vocodered vocal snippets and huge emotional pads for an almost trancelike euphoric journey. Serpentine is similarly exciting, but darker in it’s approach. A relentless bass line is main feature here, with a broken beat just adding to the drama and sinister vocals complete the vibe with devastating effect.
Remix duties are fulfilled by Cooper Saver, with his first outing on the label, and label stalwarts Speaking Minds and Amarcord. Cooper Saver has been in fine form of late. His recent release, 'The Search' on Permanent Vacation was huge and is still being hammered in the clubs. Here he takes on Traca y Pólvora with a stunning remix. A slightly lighter take on the original with an easy groove and a moving bass line that makes this the perfect end of the night track.  Meanwhile, Speaking Minds and Amarcord take on Serpentine for their ‘Club Tool Mix’. Their approach is a dark affair, with linear moody elements throughout which takes the track into peak time ‘strobe and smoke’ territory.
A powerful and impressive package throughout here and yet another stamp of quality from a fine label. File this under Big Room Moments!

Avant-garde artist from Valencia, @Upercent fuses classical instrumentation with electronic equipment to create a sound that tantalises the dance-floor with sultry rhythms, infectious melodies and weaving narratives that buck the trend for simplicity.

With releases on Kompakt, Watergate, and Diynamic, he has a first-class reputation and now joins the TAU family (@tautautauofficial) . His ‘Regal No Material’ EP features three distinct cuts that  demonstrate his  production prowess.

On the Aside  ‘Malson’ is a sombre production with simmering energy and a level of depth that is rare to find in most of today’s club music. The persistent thud of the drums feels tribal, while he steadily builds the atmosphere with intelligent programming. A stepping beat keep this cut moving forward with a menacing allure.

We are all the product of our influences and there is no substitute for experience. Damon Jee is the embodiment of that statement. Over the last 20 years he has carved a career in a very unassuming way, unintentionally writing an exciting new chapter for the global electronic music scene. He is the journeyman who managed to shine brighter by staying true to himself, a musical alchemist experimenting with different sounds to create a deadly new potion. Today, the producer is considered the main exponent of a fresh and exciting new scene many are calling Dark Disco. 

Getting his start in the studio alongside fellow Frenchman Olivier Giacomotto, the duo became main players on the then booming electro house scene with an impressive run of productions on labels like Definitive and CR2. As he started producing more solo works, Jee naturally veered towards his rebellious heritage growing up on nineties rock and industrial bands like Nine Inch Nails, The Pixies, Nirvana and more. The organic appeal of live rock seeped into his productions: distorted guitars gliding atop fat, off-beat and two-fingered picked bass, all framed within a foundation of percussion and drums that carries Damon Jee’s immaculately engineered and distinct sound. The music he released under his NOZZ moniker is especially steeped in this unique and heavy-duty sound: powerful productions which doubles up as heat seeking missiles aimed straight at the heart of any dancefloor.

It was his remix of Pardon Moi’s ‘Power to the People’ that really pushed the affable Frenchman to  a wider audience. It has it all: trance melodies and cosmic chords, a confidant rock stomp coiled with electronic euphoria, and robotic vocals gleefully riding a wave of energetic drums. It received support from the world’s best tastemakers including Solomun, Job Jobse and HAAi, introducing Damon Jee to a brand new audience. 

Today his singular sound can be heard on the underground’s most sought-after labels including Roam, Hafendisko, Suara and Sincopat to name a few. Huge support came in the form of Jennifer Cardini who signed his massive three track Chamaniac EP to her Correspondant Records. Its appeal reaching wide, the EP received support from various corners of the electronic music sphere with a diverse group of DJs from Andrew Weatherall to Chris Liebing to Joris Voorn all getting around it.

The natural evolution of Damon Jee has lead to the recent launch of his label, Critical Monday. The new imprint will explore Damon Jee’s idiosyncratic sound even further. The first release under his Holographic Planes moniker, alongside producer Alvaro Cabana, is a three track dance floor bomb featuring an equally effective remix from Jennifer Cardini. With upcoming releases from Curses, Autarkic, Fairmont, and, of course, Damon Jee, the label is set to become a go-to for those looking to ignite any dancefloor.

Today Damon Jee is slotting perfectly into his role as a bona fide headliner.
